rarest options?

what are the rarest options for these trucks? i scored a set of factory tow hooks today off an old plain jane 70 blazer, got em for 50 bucks but when i asked about the bucket seats he explained how rare they are and wanted 1000 bucks for them. i told him i would think about it, would really like a set of buckets but these needed new covers and probably new foam all around, plus the bottoms were very rusty. ive got tilt, tach and hooks now for the 4x4 but got to wondering what are the rarest of options out there to find?

Shoulder belts are the rarest option in my opinion.

Lookin at LMC Truck, a re-upholstery kit for the buckets its $400. Not sure they're worth a grand all worn but they are hard to find. Most people are puttin in newer style buckets though.

Re: rarest options?

I agree with scott, shoulder belts have to be one of the rarest. I've never seen or heard of a front posi - good one Special-K!
I also think the following are pretty rare (but not as rare as the above) -

- buckets
- 71 super (mid-year option)
- Option C highlanders (late 72 option - c being the most "decked out")
- Longhorns and Custom Campers with trim upgrades (CSTs, Supers, etc) - usually decked out for work, not comfort.
- tilt
- aux batt
- big blocks in 1/2 tons
- bedside tool box

Re: rarest options?

Gotta be the factory steel '72 auxiliary travel tank. Not the one with the add on doors, or the one you filled through the wheel well. Those things are impossible to find in my area, or in all of Texas for that matter.

Re: rarest options?

To me there are two important distinctions here. A rarely seen option and more importantly a rarely seen combination. One year only and very low volume options tend to be rare in the overall total production as a breakout percentage. But if you take a combination of low volume and one year only then things can become very rare indeed. Even common default options like 3OTT can be rare. Just think how many documentable 3OTT trucks can you think of that have a BB, SWB, A/C, Stepside bed and Cheyenne Super trim? Just what are the chances of that same truck staying that way? Yes its very rare but unfortunately not very desirable. Or take a rare option like shoulder harnesses. How many people have ever seen a Highlander with them? Would most people even notice it as a very rare combination beyond being shoulder harnesses? Then there is one of my favorites I saw for sale years ago. A '72 K20 Custom in Meadow Green with two options, a step bumper and parchment bucket seats! Keep looking and you may find one of those possible but improbable 1 of 1 vehicles. Please just think about the whole before you grab a part and run. Might just need to save a truck!

Re: rarest options?

this blazer had a half cab top on it, guy said it was factory but i havent seen anything like it before, definatly not home made as it was really nice. this old thing had lots of doo dads on it, a lite for the roll bar, grab handels, thick aluminum diff covers, brush gard and swing away spare tire carrier

Re: rarest options?

$1000 for bucket seats is crazy unless they have been reworked. I have bought them for as little as $35 for a pair, and the most I have ever paid was $100. They pop up on craigslist if you check often. Good score on the tow hooks though.

Now this is another destinction. The half top is in fact an accessory. They were available through dealers much like snow plows, winches or utility beds. The fact remains it was not a line RPO option. Even the front posi was not listed as an RPO option that I have been able to find. In looking at SPIDS you will see them listed as 4000 or 9000 code series not your typical Universal Parts Classification prefix of "F" or "G", This makes it a special order, fleet option think COPO here. The build had to have prior approval.

Good one. We have not finished mine yet and I am already thinking of more that I want to do with it.

Re: rarest options?

I would say one with a true speed warning option in the speedo would be very rare.

I have a warning in mine but it's one I bought out of a dump truck. My dad had bunches of these trucks back in the day and I never saw one I remember and he could order anything he wanted on them. He was head of truck fleet sales for many a year in Charlotte for GM.
He had them in the camaro's he had but never saw one in his trucks.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

The 67-69 trucks also had them available under option #U15, we have pulled several speed warning clusters out of original trucks as installed OE. Below is a picture of the spid from the last speed warning 68 C/20 396 BBC truck we parted. Mel

Also here is a link showing another speed warning out of a 68 1/2 ton truck we took apart, it was a 396 BBC also: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=487561
