1964? Value question
Hello, I am relatively new to the 60-66 truck world. I found a truck near me in Oklahoma that is very original, very complete, and appears to be rust free. I am told its a 64, which based on my research that appears to be the case. It was originally bought in Mississippi and owned by the father of the person selling it. She inherited the truck, they then went through it and made sure it was safe to drive, replacing all that needed to be replaced. They drive it every week or so to keep the battery charged. The interior is is good shape, the seat is covered obviously, but the dash isn't hacked or anything. The cowl, cab corners, and lower fenders are all solid. They are asking a sentimental $7500. OBviously, its worth what someone will pay for it. And, I think their is obvious sentimental value. But, I am wanting to know what a reasonable price would be for a truck in this condition. I only spoke with the person on the phone and was not able to open door or the hood.
I have been a lurker for awhile, recently joined, so I knew you guys know your stuff. |

Re: 1964? Value question
well in my opinion $7500 is crazy money. It looks to be a straight truck, but without knowing anything mechanically and its limited options, I wouldnt go near that price

It looks really clean...but that's a high price I think.

Re: 1964? Value question
One more question, is 4000 a fair price? 4500?

Re: 1964? Value question
I think 4000 is closer to a fair price....if there is "no serious" rust issues and it's drivable. what motor does it have? Is the wood bed in good condition? Did you check the usual spots for rust?

Re: 1964? Value question
The usual spots have no rust that I can see. The bed has a big piece of diamond plate covering it. Not sure in the motor other than he drives it regularly.

Re: 1964? Value question
3 years ago I gave $3500 for a bare bones 64 Stepper similar to the one you are looking at. I felt I overpaid a bit but didn't want to let it get away. Mine has a 230 I6 (Not original) with a 3 on the tree and minimal rust but had been repainted several years ago. Other than a plywood bed the truck is pretty much the way it came from the factory. Hope this helps.

Re: 1964? Value question
looks to have newer tires and wheels on it, but only 1 beauty ring. the body does look pretty good and it would be difficult to hide anything with that paint. I would have a good look at it. if it is as solid as it looks you will have to consider what you are willing to offer for it and what you want out of it. if you find something for around $3,000. I bet that you are still are going to have to to quite a bit of rust repair unless you get extremely lucky. add up the dollars what it would take for you to get it in the dhape that you want

Re: 1964? Value question
OK, sounds like I was about right in my reasoning with around $4000. Like i said, this was the original owners daughter selling it. So, their is obvious sentimental value added onto that price. I think that is the, if you want to pay me that much I will sell it, otherwise, I don't want to sell it.
I will throw out a price, and move on. Thanks everyone. |

Re: 1964? Value question
I agree 3 or 4 thousand depending on what you find upon further inspection.... CLR on that paint will work wonders!

Re: 1964? Value question
The value of straight, rust free metal can hardly be overstated. This is especially true back there where it seems nearly everything old gets hit hard.
While there is still a decent supply of clean metal in the southwest, I think it's fair to say that a super solid survivor back east is worth $1000 to $1500 more than a similar one out here, which not so coincidentally, is about what it would cost to have a dry one shipped from out west. Having said that, look closely at that patina'd paint. It looks a little suspect in that some portions and panels seem to differ from adjacent areas. This could be hiding older repair and touch-up, which frankly changes everything. It may not matter to you, but nowadays faded original patina itself has value. |

Re: 1964? Value question
I agree that a fair price would be around the $4k like others have said. It appears to be a base truck, and is missing the original hub caps. If the 6cyl is in good shape and does not leak and is drivable, then I could see going $4k for it. Earlier this year a similar 65 model sold locally for $3000, but had a lot more patina to the outside but was mechanically sound. The orginal paint on this one looks like your could rub it out and have a nice patina finish that is popular right now.
Let us know what happens....

If the '64 is anything close to the ebay truck, forget the averages and do what it takes to get it. |

Re: 1964? Value question
It is not as nice as that truck on ebay. It wouldn't take much to get it there, but its not that nice. It is a V6, he doesn't know the size. The wood bed is part there, its covered by a big piece of metal "to reduce futher deteriation". I gave him an offer. I am waiting to hear back. Its been for sale for awhile. Like i said, I think its an issue of she really doesn't want to sell it due to sentimental attachments, but would sell it for the right price, or to someone she knows will take care of it as her dad obviously did. I do have a bit of connection to this person due to my wife's family, hopefully that will help me. We will see. I threw out 4K cash and he is going to discuss with the wife and we will go from there. I really appreciate the information.

Chevies didn't come with a V6, so it is not original. Is it a GMC engine? The most common was a 305 cu. in. Should have the size in the number on the right side of the engine in front of the valve cover if it is a GMC engine. Regards, Steve New Orleans |

Re: 1964? Value question
So, Chevrolet didn't give the option of a V6 in 1964?
I am going to look at this again on Thur, we are working a deal I think. I will know more then. |

Re: 1964? Value question
Ok, good to know. He came down to 5K. So, I will check the motor out and see how it goes.
He said it had a V6, but this guy is not a "car" person. Why would someone swap out a V8 for a V6? Seems odd. Anyway. Hopefully, tomorrow, I have a new project! |
