Hey, all

I noticed this "thingy" on the side of my '54 Chevy bed roll yesterday ... can anyone tell me what it is?

Thanks!!

Is there one on the other side, if so it may have been from a hard bed cover hinge. What I want to know is what is that 5/16th phillips head bolt for that is just behind it!!! I was taking my bed apart the other day and I dont see any reason for it so out it goes and fill in the hole!

There isn't one on the passenger side ... only on the driver side. BUT I know one guy who has one on BOTH sides! He doesn't have a clue either.

All the bolts are holding it in place.

I've posted this on every board I know, and the full consensus I'm getting is that it has to do with the spare tire mount when you side-mount the spare. This is a tough one though ... no one has been SURE about what it is.
