67 camaro rear end

What is a reasonable price? I haven't seen it yet but believe it to be a completely stock 8.2 rear without the drums.

Just want to have a better idea of what I'm talking about before meeting up with the guy. He has it advertised at $150.00.

I plan on staying with a straight 6 in my 53 3100.

Re: 67 camaro rear end

Measure the width from wheel mounting surface to wheel mounting surface, should be as I remember 60"
That is a good price if it is in excellent shape minus the brake parts but good drums.

With that rear end you can up grade your transmission and keep the I-6

Re: 67 camaro rear end

Thanks...The guys pic in the CL ad shows the axle without the drums. I don't know if he just has it torn apart or if he just doesn't have them. Are drums and the parts readily available for a decent price?

I'll give him a call tomorrow.

Also I'm going to an auction this weekend that has a few mid 60's trucks. Would any of them have what I need to convert my transmission to an open rear?

Re: 67 camaro rear end

Anything after 55 should work but you will need some mods with spring pads, you have six lug wheels so the camaro will need different wheels also (5 lug 4 3/4)
I would be hesident if the axles are out or if it has been taken apart. someone did not like what they saw and maybe they are getting rid of it

Re: 67 camaro rear end

It's a tad narrow if you aren't planning on running reverse rims.
On those, pull the back cover and check where the pin that holds the spiders goes through the case to make sure it's tight and not worn out and sloppy. That is a trouble spot with that rear end. If he won't let you pull the cover = no sale. You might want to take a pan to catch gear oil in and a 1/2 inch socket, extension and ratchet along though. Maybe even an empty coffee can with the lid to pour or drain the gear oil in. It doesn't hurt to go prepared.
The drums and brake parts aren't expensive but might be a bargaining point.
