Need quick Rear end help!!
If I can get some quick help please. I'm at a pick a part right now and I'm looking for a coil rear end for my 68 c10 that the spider gears are going out in. I want to find a rear end I can use until Incan rebuild my original the right way. After multiple yards I found one. A coil rear from a 72. But it is 5 lug. Can I use the 6 lug axels from the original rear Can I swap the six lug axels into the junk yard rear end and be good to go. With out any mods just want to swap it out and be on the road

Re: Need quick Rear end help!!
Measure the rear end from backing plate to backing plate.
Your 68 rear end will probably be 55.5" at this point. The 72 5 lug axle will be 57" So, I'm thinking no. The only exception is if your rear end was a 69-70 some (I have one) from the late 69-70 model year were 57 " wide, but still 6 lug. 5 lug originals are usually 57" plate to plate. I'm thinking pass .. (unless you want to swap the front to 5 lug? .. and of course wheels too.. )

Re: Need quick Rear end help!!
Correct -- .75" either side. 1.5" overall wider. 55.5" vs. 57"

Re: Need quick Rear end help!!
One more thing .. you'll want to be careful if you have wider wheels and tires on it too. If you swap to a 57" rear end, your wheels will 'stick out' .75" more on either side.
(cause her butt will be wider )
