03 1500hd question

Hello all I usually am in the 60-66 part of this site but I am looking at an 03 1500hd Sierra with 70k miles and it has quadrasteer. Has anyone had quadrasteer? And are they dependable and not junk? Any feedback would help, thanks

My mom has a 04 2500 Burb with quadrasteer, No problems. The only problem is you HAVE to change the rear diff. fluid every 12000 miles, Use the correct GM fluid....GM part# 12378557. Can buy it online for around $16, Dealer can be as high as $30 per quart.

Quadrasteer trucks also have a Dana 60 rear axle & is a good axle, But weird GM/Delphi didnt use the AAM 9.5" they already had.

Re: 03 1500hd question

Thanks for the reply..It seems like a pretty nice truck yet, i just havent heard much about the quad-steer stuff. I have heard a few things about it not giving much problem or giving a lot of problems. I dont know for sure what Id use it for or how much id use it, but the truck is what what im looking for Theyre asking too much money for it but Ill work on that haha

Re: 03 1500hd question

They are sought after and people love them from what I've read. They do bring a premium and sell fast if priced properly since you can't buy a new truck with the feature. Change fluid regularly as mentioned. Get used to it before you manuever around parking lots, they are different and will surprise you at first. Price needs to be lower on that one to around 15-16 IMO

My buddy has one and can back a trailer like nobody's business with the quadrasteer engaged. He can out-park me in any parking lot!

Re: 03 1500hd question

I am in negotiations with them. I have already told them countless times that a 15,000 truck isnt worth 19,000 haha so i am working on it.

Re: 03 1500hd question

Does anyone know how much of a difference in towing there is between a standard half ton with a 3:73 posi compared to a 1500HD with 4:10?

Re: 03 1500hd question

In terms of what? control, power, braking?

The 1500hd will have the 6.0 so you'll have more torque and the 4l80e trans so you won't have to damage the truck towing as much as you want. Also the HD is a 3/4 ton chassis so better brakes and everything for towing. On the other hand, this truck is heavier than a 1/2 ton so it won't feel as peppy and mileage won't be as good, esp with 4.10's. As with anything, there are tradeoffs. You'll like it for towing and hualing but if you just want a daily driver, 1/2 ton would be more economical

Re: 03 1500hd question

Also, I think you have to step up to a 1500hd/2500 like this to get a crew cab with a 6.5 box. If thats what you need and you aren't towing what you'd need a 2500hd for, these are good trucks.

Re: 03 1500hd question

I am just curious as to how much more it can pull. We drill water wells around here and we haul some heavier equipment and I seem to have a habit of hauling old trucks home as well. And my half ton now can do it but last summer it would overheat at times and just didnt have the power to pull some of the things we have. I spoke with the original owner of this 03 gmc and he said highway it owuld do about 13 and in town about 11. But i am on the highway a lot just to get to town. But the dealer thinks something is wrong with my transmission on my current truck, which nothing is wrong with it and his reasoning didnt make sense. I am only 21 and when I come in there i cant get a saleman to take me serious. COuld be their loss on it

Re: 03 1500hd question

How heavy are the items you need to tow? The mileage sounds about right, thats what a 2500hd gets empty with the 4.10 gears. Look into a custom tune, Cold air intake, and synthetic fluids to pick up 1mpg or so.

Re: 03 1500hd question

My dad has a quadrasteer and I'm sold. They are incredible to drive, especially trailering. He has had issues though. The rear end whines, expensive gear oil and when the speedometer went out it caused an electrical problem with the rear end (centering) and almost caused him to flip on the highway. He still likes it.
