Ignition switch change out
I am looking at buying a 1990 burb that has ignition switch issues, Im guessing that is it the key lock mechanism. How hard is to change one out the replacement part on rock auto is fairly inexpensive. Any thoughts on this? The price of the whole burb is pretty good and only has a couple minor things needing fixed.

Re: Ignition switch change out
It's not that bad, you do have to get a steering wheel puller and lock plate compressor (harbor freight) and remove the steering wheel and windshield washer/blinker arm and can. After that it just enacted with a Phillips screwdriver.

Re: Ignition switch change out
It's not too bad to change out the switch. Just keep in mind that a lot of the nuts and bolts on the steering column are metric.
Most part stores will loan out the steering wheel puller; be careful to not bugger up the threads on the steering shaft. There are a couple of excellent step by step guides to the GM steering column on the internet. I have lost the link, just google "GM steering column rebuild"
