Question No Posi to Posi

Ok, so I have a non posi 3.42 rear in my 89 project truck, however Ive learned that a 350 5spd without posi isnt a great idea. I have a 3.73 posi rear, however I dont want the 3.73 ratio. So I was wondering, could I tear both rears apart and make my 3.42 into a posi using the parts from the other rear? I dont see why not, but couldnt find any info, and figured Id ask before taking everything apart. Thanks

Yeah, but you'll still be stuck with the junk gov-bomb.
Since you already have an open carrier, why not drop a locker in? They now have a street locker that doesn't make nearly as much racket as the strip job. You get to leave your gears set up exactly as they are are replace the spider gears with a locker. Don't have to go through a new set-up or anything, couldn't be easier.

Thanks for the info. And normally Id say that thats a better idea, however I cant do that with this project. I have a bet with a few friends, and I think buying the lockup conversion would probably put me over the price limit we set. I will keep the lockup info in mind tho, because thats probably what Ill do with my other truck when the time comes.

Re: No Posi to Posi

Watch sleazebay, you can find 'em for under $400 shipped.
Keep in mind that you'll need a new installation kit if you move the gov-bomb over, plus you'll need to set the gears up again or pay someone to do it. ANYBODY that can turn wrenches can install the locker. Keep the 3.73's and sell the gov-bomb on ebay to help recoup costs.
Do a few searches and check out what happens when a gov-bomb in a 10-bolt lets go.
Also...you can't do a burnout worth squat with the gov-bomb, it'll lock for a while, then unlock. When Trucks did the show where they pitted a 454SS against the Ferd Lightning, the 454SS couldn't do donuts or even a decent burnout with the factory gov-lock and that was even the big version.
