Coolant overflow tank

Just found this site and what at great sorce of information, thanks to all. My swap is a 5.3 into 1965 1 ton dually hauler custom built by my father in law in the late sixties. I am using a 3 row Champion aluminum radiator with a cap on the passenger side tank, do I need to run the factory overflow tank ?
I am running my steam line to a fitting on the tank just below the radiator cap that is higher then the engine. Any help would be great.

Re: Coolant overflow tank

just remember when filling with coolant fill the radiator then fill the motor thru the upper radiator hose. filling thru the radiator will not fill the block.

oh...and not sure it matters what overflow tank you run?

Re: Coolant overflow tank

If I read this correctly, you're planning on running the engine steam line to the radiator overflow port on the radiator neck? If so, I don't think that will work.

If it is a port on the passenger side tank you should be fine.

You probably don't need an overflow tank...I have one but it never sees any fluid. Besides, there were no "stock" overflow tanks for these trucks that I know of.
