1971 custom 20 w/ camper
Just came across a solid (from California) 71 custom 20 with its original camper on it.The floors , bed ,rockers are all solid. Only a bit of rust in pass side fender tip and a little in the corners of the outer door skins, the door bottoms are solid.Has 350 in it, only 77,000 miles, is this thing worth $1500. Cant attach a phot yet but I'll keep trying.

Re: 1971 custom 20 w/ camper
Sounds like it is worth the price. Make sure the paperwork is clean and the numbers match up and it should be fine. But remember a good price won't last long, even less so on a weekend.
There is a process for posting pictures from a mobile so you might try searching the site for specifics.

Re: 1971 custom 20 w/ camper
I agree trucks like this don't last long and could go to the wrong guy so, snap it up that way you will have a great truck for $1,500.00 (to me, a no brainer) cheers, Pat

Re: 1971 custom 20 w/ camper
Its not really on the market, was one I stopped by and talked to them about it. Probably could have gotten it cheaper but somebody stopped and offer them that to part it out. I told them its too nice to part out. I would drive it with the camper sometimes and try to restore the camper. Owner passed away and they are having trouble locating the title. Illinois is a ***** getting titles. Still cant post photos from my phone.

Re: 1971 custom 20 w/ camper
Ok, here goes for pics. I have attached one of the drivers side and one of the spid. Unk what they did to the hood but I'll have to try to blend paint to match the rest if I buy it. This way I would own a set.... 68 gmc burb, 72 k5 and this one.

Lucky strike! I have been hunting for one like that here in the midwest but to no avail.
Let me know if you decide to flip it. Tim |

Re: 1971 custom 20 w/ camper
Not yet, later in the week I think. Gotta check on the title. It was built in California and had the camper on it early on if not from day one. Migrated to Illinois in 1990 I think. The camper has a California nameplate on it still. They only used it for camping, hence the 77,000 miles. I can't get the rear camper door open yet, but it still has the small stove in it and fridge, heck the propnae tank is still there too. Weird though, this isn't a custom camper model, or is this normal??

Re: 1971 custom 20 w/ camper
Check the spid. Does it have any camper related options? Mine does, but it doesn't have Custom Camper emblems. I was told by others on this site that it probably is.

Camper wiring and mirrors were not required. So, all these except the tire upgrade appear to be on the SPID. Re: 1971 custom 20 w/ camper
Still working on getting this. Is there any market out there for a slide in camper or is it something just to junk. I didnt know if there was a market for them, its a Macdonald camper out of California, looks to be original to the truck.

Re: 1971 custom 20 w/ camper
A few more pictures would really help. It looks like the camper is high/low style but rather long with a lot of overhang.

Re: 1971 custom 20 w/ camper
i'd highly recommend not buying that truck. Please pm me the contact info for that seller and I'll rwad him the riot act for trying to rup you off....
Pk, but serously now, sure looks like it's worth $1500 to me. I say pounce. If you have MORE funds available, then you have the luxury of time and the ability to shop around. However, if this is close to what you're looking for - and your budget is $1500, go for it. Sure it will need a little work, but ANY $1500 truck will. I like it. |

Re: 1971 custom 20 w/ camper
Well here is the bad news, if I get it ,shes getting parted out because the title is mia and Illinois is a serious pain trying to get one (the owner is deceased). Cab and bed are rust free but the bed has the tool box which doesnt help the sale of it. Guy at work may want the bed.Ill get more pics early next week when I pick it up.

In Arkansas, we can get a Bonded Title. Check with your state folks and see how they deal with issues like that.

Re: 1971 custom 20 w/ camper
Take care of the title out of state. Don't you know anyone in a neighboring state who can help? Once titled, you can transfer it into your state. As far as a market for the camper, list it for sale and find out. I would buy it if you were closer. Be sure to list it as late 60s-early 70s vintage and from California.

The tool stowage box is actually quite valuable, in rust free condition it's probably worth $500 or so.....one more reason to jump on this deal.

Re: 1971 custom 20 w/ camper
Definately buy that thing. Come over here to Iowa, title it, and transfer it to Illinois. If you do decide to part it out, that tool box bedside option is awesome, and will sell very quickly, especially if you sell it on here.
I'm very jellous, I would love to have a camper like that for mine.

Re: 1971 custom 20 w/ camper
Really must add a word of caution here. As much as I like of what little I can see there are considerations. At the price given it is a deal even for really clean parts and a camper. The potential problem I see here may be the title. Having a new title issued out of state and then trying to have a new title issued by IL could be a problem. Here in CA they really cracked down on titles from know "washing" states. People were taking vehicles with large amounts of "fees due" and simply retitling them, then "bringing them back" to CA for a clean title transfer. My understanding is a lot of titles and registrations were revoked. There has to be a process for the issuance of a "lost title" for an estate.

Re: 1971 custom 20 w/ camper
Finally got it home, boy is it solid. I have no key for the camper so I'm unsure of the camper interior. Only rust is in the lower front door skins and a fender tip. The cab is great as is the bed. Here are a few pics, then it started to pour on me

Re: 1971 custom 20 w/ camper
That's cool. No key for the camper, huh? Wonder what treasures you'll find in there. You'll have to let us know. I mean, guys are finding all sorts of stuff under the seat. I can only imagine an entire camper. Hopefully you don't find a deceased elderly couple in there! Lmfao
Btw, what's with the paint on the hood, and the fenders? Did somebody paint over to with Rustoleum or something? Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: 1971 custom 20 w/ camper
Yep, rustoleum and I dont know why on the hood. Unless they spilled braked fluid or something on there and it took the paint off and they buzz bombed it to protect it.
