TF lower door hinge repair

guys i'm getting ready to repair the lower hinge pocket on my 56' door as it has been repaired with brazing over the years and i was wondering if anyone here has ever installed a replacement hinge piece inside the door. do you cut open the inner door skin and replace bracket then weld inner skin back in place? my door is solid and hate to cut it open but lower hinge plate was cracked beyond repair and i have removed most of it. i could cut out portion of repop bracket but that would make door possibly stick out to far acting like it needed shims removed so not the proper way to fix. anyone have some feedback? thanks
