carb, where to find accelerator pump?
I am about ready to just buy a new intake and carburetor. I have narrowed some of my issues to the carb or fuel pump. When I rebuilt the carb the kit only came with a accelerator rubber cup and not a spring. The spring was corroded which I cleaned to the best of my abilities. I am guessing it is not doing its job though. If I just tap the throttle it studders/bogs a little before the rpms kicks up. Anyone know who sells just the accelerator pump assembly? Going to check the fuel pump next.
Basically if I am crusing down the road at about 45mph the engine stalls and dies. Takes a few minutes to start back up. May still be a carb issue but I also suspect the fuel pump. Truck: 72 3/4 ton 350 th400. Rochester quad carb. Any info is greatly appreciated. -B |

Re: carb, where to find accelerator pump?
Any kinked fuel lines? Check fuel pressure at the carb. Is the fuel filter clean? Did you set the float level right? You should be able to adjust the shot on the accelerator pump to get more fuel by moving the rod to a different hole.

Re: carb, where to find accelerator pump?
no kinked lines, fuel filter is brand new (only one), float level was set per instructions in the rebuild kit. The rod looks like it is in the right position to put a shot of fuel in there. I'm going to pop the top on the carb and see if the cup is torn or kinked. I would rather just put a new one in there if I have the top off.

Re: carb, where to find accelerator pump?
Easier to look inside the carb when you stroke the throttle and look for a good shot of raw fuel than pull it apart. Motor off of course.

Hey, welcome, if you are in the Phoenix area call Rod's carburetor repair 602-272-4992
He's at 27th Ave and Mcdowell. I had trouble getting my truck through inspection , took my carb to him, they rebuilt it, adjusted it and it went thru with no trouble. I don't want to tell you all the problems i've had trying to get thru inspection Mike

Re: carb, where to find accelerator pump?
Tks for the help. I havent had a chance to totally check out the carb i.e. checking for stream versus droplets. I ruled some other things out first. Might have to take it to a pro like suggested above. Do you remember what he charged to rebuild it?

Re: carb, where to find accelerator pump?
Both my son and I had carbs rebuilt there. We both sent about $200.00, but he bolted his on and it run perfect just the way they adjusted it

Re: carb, where to find accelerator pump?
200 smackers eh? Hmm little tough for me to swallow right now. As far as inspection goes it passed without any issues after i first rebuilt it. Recently started having issues with it.
Got to looking at it today. No gas when i pump throttle by hand. I tried it without starting it first and there was nothing. I'll try it after starting it to get fuel into carb, shut it off and then try to pump it by hand again. I dont think it will make a difference though Posted via Mobile Device |
