What would you buy?
So, I'm looking into getting my own truck, preferably something driveable, while I plan what direction I want to go. I have come across two 68 Longbeds (longbed so I can haul the motorcycle to track days ). The trucks:
Truck #1: 1968 C/10 Custom 350/TH400 (Original engine was 327, replaced with a 383 that spun a bearing, replaced with 350) Factory air Holes in body from where factory molding was removed Lowered Power Steering Seats in serviceable condition, out of what I surmise is a mid 80s chevy van (buckets, console) Surface rust as expected, body straight with original paint. Standard potential problem areas (rockers, etc.) Holes cut in interior of doors for speakers Truck 2: 1968 C/10 Wood bed 250 I6 4 on the floor newly reupholstered factory seat. Repainted Rocker panel rust covered in bondo when painted. wood bed needs replaced. No A/C Straight body (haven't had chance to verify what repairs have been made) Both asking $2k. My question is this: which would YOU go for, and how much would you offer? I'm torn between the two. Looking for all inputs and opinions. Please help... |

Re: What would you buy?
Definately the first one! You don't want to inherit someone else's body work. Who knows what's under the paint of the second one, it could be 20 gallons of bondo and a bunch of rust. At least with the first one you know what you're getting!

Re: What would you buy?
That seems to be the direction I'm leaning. I don't expect perfect, but this truck seems to have more potential.

Re: What would you buy?
I say truck #2....just kidding. #1 sounds a ton better to me. If you do a restoration in the future, uncut doors can still be found at reasonable prices. Sounds like a cool truck, have fun!

Re: What would you buy?
Thank you. Goal is to get the thing street ready and reliable, and see where it goes from there.

Re: What would you buy?
Oh, and another thing I forgot to mention... I have a '68 chevy C20 (Orig. 327/400)parts truck that I bought for body panels mostly. Let me know if you need anything off it(side moldings are pretty good).

Re: What would you buy?
Pictures for those asking. From my phone, so be gentle. Can't really complain. Typical issues, but running small block and working TH400 are probably worth more than what I paid.

Re: What would you buy?
I like it, I'd try to clean all that black paint off and buff it up
