Will an '84 10 bolt swap in place of '78 12 bolt?

The ONLY reason I am going to a weaker axle is because my rear end is about to grenade and I don't have the money right now to do it right. I found an '84 parts truck that has a 10 bolt for $150. So will this be a direct swap to my '78?

I need help ASAP, so thanks in advance!

It should swap in no problems.

You will probably need to swap the yoke on the rear or get conversion u-joints, and the e-brake cables on 84 and up are run to left side only.

What is a conversion u joint? If I swap the yoke, won't that mess up the crush sleeve pre-load or something? What is the difference in the yokes?

A conversion u joint is a u joint that has two different sizes on it where a normal one is the same size on both sides.

So if the Ebrake is on the left hand side, will I not be able to hook up my Ebrake? Also, the axle I found, the guy wants $150 for it. Is that a good price for a rearend?
