G-TR Rear Coil Over Suspension

This pic with the bed on may give a better "visual" as to how much the rear is lowered. This is at the lowest setting of approximately a 6" drop.
As far as details go, -The ride height will be adjustable from approx. 4"-6" -Shocks are moved into a vertical position to work more effectively with the suspension movement. -Maintains maximum tire clearance by containing all components within the frame rails. -Both upper and lower shock mounting points are a double-shear type, capturing both sides of the shock for improved strength and durabillity. -Uses factory frame holes for a true "bolt-in" installation. -Heavy Duty double adjustable panhard bar with QA1 XM Series Chromoly rod ends allow for easy centering of the rear-end. -Grade 8 hardware included. -QA1 Single Adjust Coilover shocks included with 400 lb springs, other spring rates available at customer request. -Can be ugraded to Double Adjust Coilovers for $200 added price. -Retail price is set at $1,200 for the full kit with Single Adjust Shocks. Forum Memebers save $100 -Base kits without shocks can also be purchased for $700, Forum Member price $650. |

The lower mount is attached by a "C" bracket the wraps around the trailing arm and is captured both top and bottom by the U-bolt used to bolt the rear end in place.

400 lb/in springs? Is that what is required to hold these trucks up in the rear? What is the travel of those shocks?

Factory springs are rated right around 600 lb/in. We start with a 400 lb spring as a base line to improve performance characteristics/weight transfer without giving up to much with load capabilties. (It's not so much designed for hauling or towing heavy loads as it is for performance gains) Just for comparison, the Hotchkis 6" rear springs are rated at 380 lb/in. The coil overs have an approx. travel of 5.375" with an 11.625" compressed height and 17" extended, using a 12" spring.

Yes, a shorter shock can be substituted and then adjust the lower bracket location to compensate. The trade-off would be a shorter shock travel, roughly 4" instead of 5"+. That's where our base kit package can come in handy, the customer can choose their own coilovers. One note, though, we developed this kit to use QA1's or a similar shock with the knobs at the bottom for ease of access for adjustment. Not that brands with the adjustment knobs at the top won't fit, we just haven't tested that style for any clearance issues yet.

We developed this kit using Early Classic Trailing Arms, which are a 1/4" taller that the stock ones, but a spacer is included for those still running stock. This makes the kit somewhat universal. We are planning on our own trailing arms next year that will incorporate the lower mounts right on the arm instead of using a seperate bracket. They will also have a spherical bearing for the mounting point instead of poly or rubber bushings, but we are working out the details. The kit would then be available in two configurations, without the arms if someone wanted an ecinomical bolt in kit, or with the arms for a complete rear suspension upgrade. We are forcasting an approximate price of $1,400-$1,500 for the complete kit. The kit listed above will have the bolt in frame crossmember, lower shock brackets, double adjustable panhard bar with QA1 Chromoly rod ends, single adjustable QA1 bearing mount shocks with #400 springs (other rates available per customer request) and all grade 8 hardware included.

The tires/wheels that are in the photos 295/45 mounted on 18x9.5 with 4.75 backspacing on a stock width axle. These measure out to about 28.5" tall and 11.5" wide and there is room to go at least 4" wider toward the frame.

Is the rear suspension on the '60-'62 that much different that this can't be modified to work? I have an '85 front suspension in place of the torsion bars, and I have removed the "X" frame. I plan on using a couple of the tubular cross braces from Porterbuilt to add some rigidity. Think it'll work?
