I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem? Seems like my wipers only work about 50% of the time. I have found that if you open the hood and bang on the black box that houses the circuit board, that sometimes makes them go. I presume it's an electrical problem...I'm wondering what I need to replace? The circuit board?
thanks for any ideas |

Re: Windshield Wipers on my 97 work intermitently?
There was a recall on some models but I don't think your truck is covered by the recall.
I have seen other vehicles not covered by the recall that have cracked solder joints on the circuit board. If you are good with a soldering iron, it is an easy fix, otherwise replace the circuit board. [NHTSA Recall No. 03V159/GM Recall No. 03023] Defect: On certain minivans, pickup trucks, and sport utility vehicles with certain model-engine combinations, the windshield wiper motor may fail due to cracked solder joints on the controller circuit board. The windshield wipers could work intermittently or not at all.

Re: Windshield Wipers on my 97 work intermitently?
Greg is right....however, we'd never know they had a problem if we didn't turn 'em on once in a while. Mine always worked when I didn't need them. But, let it rain while in traffic on the interstate....there you go.
