67 to 68 driver and passenger door

Hello all, My drivers side door is rusted out and bent inward. The work to fix this is a little out of my metal working skill level.

I found a local guy in town that is parting out a 68 and he will sell me the drivers door off the 68 for $50.

Will the 68 door work for the 67 ??

In person they look identical, but rather throw it out to you guys who have come across this before.

Thanks

The 68 door will bolt right on, there is a couple of differences. (1) the vent window is different and can be switched, (2) the outside door handles are different between the two will not interchange.

Re: 67 to 68 driver and passenger door

FYI

If it is an early 68 door the it will have the double plate at the door handle mount (the screw access holes will be tear drop shaped not round like the 67), if so the 67 handles will work.

here is a pic of an early 68 door...

Re: 67 to 68 driver and passenger door

Thx for the info on the door handles.

would the vent windows be a big issue to swap?

I might as well get both and be done with it if one door wont match the other.

Gah... I thought they would be a little less complicated.... thank you CHEV designers....You "&^$@ed me"!!! LOL

ok guys I'll do some more research on the doors.

Re: 67 to 68 driver and passenger door

Vent windows just a little bit of a pain to swap, I would order new window felts. and put the felts in after you have replaced the vent window. You don't have to use the '67 vent window, because the newer style fits fine, but they are unique and kind of cool. Look at replacing the innerds of the door while you have it out, usually they are pretty worn out. The other thing to be careful with is the bolts that hold the door to the cab are very fine threaded and easy to strip (ask me how I know) so be careful there. Good Luck!

Re: 67 to 68 driver and passenger door

We put '69 doors on my '67 cab without a problem. Since my truck is made of so many years it does not concern me that the vent windows do not look like the '67 ones.

Re: 67 to 68 driver and passenger door

All above info is excellent and accurate on differences. I was aware of most of it. Thanks All!!!

DIGGMAN, If that door is in good shape, I'd snatch it up FAST!!!, even though is 68 and 67 are slightly different.

I have a 67 and a 68. I NEVER see a good drivers door ANYWHERE, any salvage any year 67-72. I ran across a 67-72 pickup at a pull-a-part salvage. The dad gum drivers door was in VERY good condition, I like ta crapped, and is was a 67 (I needed a 67 door, never looked for one, because I knew they were rare...) I couldn't get it unbolted fast enough...

Re: 67 to 68 driver and passenger door

Good advice from all. Will make a decision and see what I can do with the doors.

Thanks

P.s. The door handle information was something I didn't know till today. So again, I am learning from you guys as I go.
