64 suburban

A buddy of mine in texas gave me his 64 suburban back in the spring. Being from cincinnati I wasnt able to go get it until a few weeks ago. It is a 292 (I guess) with a automatic. I got it running and had to put a water pump on it but it sounds good.
The problem I have now is the fuel tank. He had quit driving it because the tank had a leak, so it has sat for a few years and the tank is VERY nasty inside. I might attempt to clean it but if I could find a replacement I would go that route. It seems most of the vendors list tanks for trucks but not the suburban, Is there a truck tank that fits this vehicle?

Re: 64 suburban

The suburban tank is a special beast. You can check out my build thread in my sig. And on page two or three I have good pics and explain everything I went through to get it restored.

I agree

Unless you want to be able to mount your spare tire in the factory location, I would just get a '69-'72 Blazer tank. It is nearly identicle, except for the lack of the spare tire indentation. Plus you will gain a couple gallons of capacity. This is also what is used in the rear tank conversions for the pickups.

Re: 64 suburban

A rear tank kit for pickups is what I used.
