spider or side gear swap

Here's a strange one! are the side gears on my 64 12 bolt 3.73 rear end the same as in a 1969 12 bolt 3.08 rear end? I know the 64 is 17 spline and the 69 in 30 spline, but are the teeth the same. The reason I ask, I plan to install the 69 rearend 3.08 in my 64 truck, but my 64 rear end already has redrilled axles and the 69 have 6 lug axles. If the side gears would swap out, all I do is swap the side gears and axles to the 69 and I'm ready to go! Maybe? Or if not, redrill the 6 lug axles to 5 lug, but have not found anyone that can do it. Or just buy new 5 lug axles at $125 each. Thanks Marty

Re: spider or side gear swap

Seems the side gears will swap from a 69 model to a 64 12 bolt easily. I needed the redrilled five lug axles from my 64 3.73 rearend to fit into a 69 model 3.08 rearend. Both the same width, but the difference being the number of splines on the axles. So I changes the side gears and it worked great. Thanks Guys
