Daddy's monster truck
First off it isn't really a monster truck, it is just what my kids call it.
I bought this truck about two years ago and it was all stock minus add a leafs all around. i replaced those the next summer with a 2.5" lift with 33" tires. last month i changed out the 3.08 gears in the axels to 4.10 and wow what a difference! I went from a sad 13mpg to about 17mpg and could finally use my OD on my 700r4. this last week i replaced the engine and transmission out. The engine is a turn key ZZ4 with hedman headers. Behind that is a new to me 700r4 from bowtie overdrives. I must say I couldn't have done this without all of the insight this web site has given me. My hat is off to all of you. Thanks, Dan |

Re: Daddy's monster truck
Very nice! I like the look and just general theme(?). Mild lift, mildly larger tires,clean/good looking body/paint,and mucho power with a strong O/D. Something you can drive that's handsome, tough, and not a workout.

Thanks guys,
Special K, that is the look i am going for. A slightly over stock truck with a mild sleeper drivetrain.

Re: Daddy's monster truck
Gchemist, That is what i am shooting for. I have read your posts about the milage you got on your truck and that is why i went with the ZZ4. The truck will go fast and get good gas milage when i want too.

Re: Daddy's monster truck
So what I have learned from doing the engine swap. The ZZ4 turn key has a CS type alternator and my truck had an SI type; NAPA makes an adapter plug which will plug into your stock wiring and then to the alternator, part number: ec82. It will simulate the required load to start charging without having to use a load light.
Second, the AC and the alternator swap sides so the lines for the AC were to long. The lines out of a 92 Chevy truck fit almost perfectly, I had to massage the rigid line to the radiator slightly. Fits great now! More to follow I'm sure, as this will always be a fun never ending project. Dan PS this thing is so freaking fast wow! Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Daddy's monster truck
I applaud you for having your truck chained up so that it can't run away

Re: Daddy's monster truck
That grill is one of my favorites, 83/84? Is that a GMPP serpentine setup? I have one in a box for a motor I have in a bag. Thanks for the tip on the alt plug.

Re: Daddy's monster truck
Bruiser, it sure is the GMPP Serpentiene set.
Willett, yep add an 90lb dog to the end of the chain and have one homemade alarm. Lol Posted via Mobile Device
