Chevy front hub question / clarification.

I have some things laying around. Tell me if I have identified them correctly.

Picture 1. Dana 44 front disk/mile marker lockouts.

Picture 2. Corporate 10 bolt/selectro lockouts.

Picture 3.
Left. dana 44 rotor / corporate 14 bolt hub (rear disk swap)

Right. Corporate 10 bolt hub and rotor.

So both the front dana 44 and the corp 14 bolt have external fastners (corp has 8 larger, dana has 6 smaller fastners).

Correct me if I have this wrong

Re: Chevy front hub question / clarification.

Eric,
There are two type of Dana 44 hubs for Chevy's. From 73 to 76 they used and "external hub" design on the 3/4 ton trucks, which is what you have pictured in photo#1. From 77 and up the hubs are all "internal", exactly the same as your photo #2.

The answer your questions more precisely, the early Dana44 3/4 ton front axle you have pictures does indeed use external fasteners to fasten the axle shaft to the hub.

Hope this helps.

Re: Chevy front hub question / clarification.

Pic 3 left hub is indeed from GM 14 bolt hub with a front rotor for a rear disc swap.

Re: Chevy front hub question / clarification.

What is the interchangeability between 44 internal, 44 external and 10 bolt front s. I have heard that they are swappable from the knuckle out.

Re: Chevy front hub question / clarification.

I can speak from experience about the two Dana 44s. Everything is the same except for the spindle, hub, hub inner bearing, inner bearing seal and obviously the hub locks. I believe, but have not verified 100%, that the outer bearing is the same.

I've never owned a 10 bolt but it is my understanding that they are virtually identical to, or at least interchangeable with, the internal hub Dana 44 from the knuckles out.
