oil leak - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Oil is leaking from somewhere by the distributer. What could it be? I've read it could be pcv. I haven't taken anything apart and it just started doing this a few hundred miles back. These leaks are aut to drive me mad. This is on a 350 on the LH side and drips down onto the bellhousing then onto the trans pan.

Is it coming from the distributor? Or at the oil sending unit at the back of the motor? Or is it the valve cover or intake manifold leaking? These are a few places to check first.

Valve covers are fine, I can't really tell whether its the manifold or the oils sender its just. Hat area

I'm gonna bet that its the oil sending unit. I would spray it down good with some engine degreaser and clean that area really good. Then take a good look at it. Does it have a mechanical oil pressure gauge, electric gauge/light? Sometimes the sending unit or tubing fittings just need to be tightened but sometimes the sending unit will go bad and start leaking.

Worst case scenario grab some UV die (11 bucks or so at auto parts places) and pour it in. The stuff Ive used in the past doesnt even require the UV glasses. Its pretty straight forward... Where you see green is where the leak is originating. I'd wait till you need to do an oil change though. Its safe to use in the engine... Just don't want your truck looking like its pissing ninja turtle green pee!

Looked at somewhat close after I drove it. It kinda looks like its leaking where the opsu screws into the motor. Is this bad, or do I just need to get a new one put her in there?

If the sending unit is still working and it's just leaking at the block you can just take it off, clean it, put some thread sealant on the threads and put it back on.

Well I tightened the opsu and it still leaked. Turns out its the intake so im gonna live with the leak for a week till I get payed then get a performer intake and hopefully fix this leak.
