LS Swap purge solenoid
2004 5.3/4l60 swap.....does any one know if the purge solenoid valve is suppose to always have vacuum or does that computer kick it on? i have no vacuum on the valve so i can connect the hose to my canister. i tried another solenoid and i do have 12v to the red wire going to it.

Re: LS Swap purge solenoid
Its PCM controlled, Without a tank pressure sensor & vent solenoid the EVAP system will not work anyway.

Re: LS Swap purge solenoid
The purge solenoid is for the EVAP system from the original fuel system in the vehicle you pulled the 5.3 from. You will need to simply cap it.
If you are running the stock MAF sensor from the donor vehicle this wont apply to you, but when I built my Trailblazer, I removed the purge solenoid port and drilled it out, tapped it to 3/8npt and used it as the Intake Air Temp sensor. With the Procharger and meth injection, this was the only way to get the truest reading of intake air temps...for you, this will only be useful if you are going to run Speed Density tuning and you won't have a MAF... Re: LS Swap purge solenoid
Then pop the valve off and hook a vacuum line up to the nipple from your charcoal canister and you are done. It's behind the throttle blade so vacuum will be there.

Re: LS Swap purge solenoid
So by removing the purge valve there should be vacuum at that port? Just remove the valve, and put my hose from canister to the hole where the purge valve sits in?

Re: LS Swap purge solenoid
Yep, the port is simply a hole into the intake plenum...perfect for a vacuum port!

Re: LS Swap purge solenoid
Where I put the hose from the purge valve hole to my canister? My canister has one from fuel tank which goes to my fuel tank and then I got carb bowl I think and Pvc and last I think I have air inlet which I think it gets it fresh air from there

Re: LS Swap purge solenoid
I believe it would be whichever vacuum line connects to the carb will be the line you connect to the purge port...

Re: LS Swap purge solenoid
My purge valve's port was an 1/8" nipple, so slipping a vacuum line into it would have been easy. On the 5.3 intake, it may be different...post a picture for me and I'll give you some ideas!
