Cleaning Diff Pinion Gears?

69 3/4 ton, removed the cover, drained the gear oil and want to get as much as I can removed. Its pretty thick. Can I spray something in there to clean it out?

I've never done this, but it seems like you could spray it with brake cleaner. It's pretty effective and dries fairly quickly without leaving any residue. Just be sure it has all dried completely (and everything inside is clean) before you reassemble and refill.

I’ve put diesel into a weed pump sprayer and it worked very well. Makes a mess, be careful, put a 5gallon jug under it to catch it all.
