Drum to disc brakes, what size rotor?
Getting ready to go to the bone yard Friday to look for my goodies to change over to disc brakes. I'll need 6 lug rotors but when I order them what size will I be looking for?

Wow, that takes care of that, now just to find them. Do you think local auto parts store will have?

What spindle are you using? You need a 71-87 HD spindle or aftermarket 63-70 disc conversion spindle. All 6-lug aftermarket rotors are the 1-1/4" HD version. http://www.performanceonline.com/che...ersion-rotors/

Re: Drum to disc brakes, what size rotor?
I'm gonna run a 2 1/2 inch drop spindle. Probably someone that's well known cause I don't want junk. Going friday to get the a-arms, calipers, rotors (won't need them) and spindles (won't need them either) Is there anything else I should get cause it's only costing me 50 bucks for whatever I get. I plan on using my original crossmember. and would like to change over to power steering. Would I need the crossmember to do that or can I mount the steering box without too much trouble?

Well then I'll need a power brake adapter and a power steering bracket from captainfab. I've seen some of his work on here and it's very nice.

Re: Drum to disc brakes, what size rotor?
Get the steering linkage.
Centerlink, inner and outer tie rods, ilder arm, etc, I would find a 71-72 or 73-87 donor. Just make sure the 73-87 donor has the 1-1/4" rotors. What year is the truck you are working on?

Re: Drum to disc brakes, what size rotor?
listen to whatever lolife99 says.. He knows these trucks well. and yes, captfab's brackets are the best out there and he is an amazing help to anyone on this board. as long as you keep reading old post (using the search function) and keep asking questions, you will be fine. Kudos on getting the wife to help, mine loves classics and it's one of "our" hobbies, its great doing something you enjoy together!

Re: Drum to disc brakes, what size rotor?
You can use your old control arms, but will need new ball joints for whatever year spindles you go with.
Chances are the donor ball joints will be junk anyways. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Drum to disc brakes, what size rotor?
You can have 6 lug front rotors using OEM style parts, but most guys here prefer to go the above mentioned route.
Here is one of the threads about front disc brake upgrades. There are also many other helpful threads linked in the 60-66 FAQ Index located at the top of the 60-66 forum main page. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=367260

Some yards will just cut the frame behind the crossmember and give you everything.

They fit better than the 88-98 wheels.

Re: Drum to disc brakes, what size rotor?
And that's just what i'll do. What's about the easiest way to tell the year of the truck? Other than knowing what they look like cause alot look alike from year to year,
