Re: what is this red wire?

Doesn't look like a choke connnector. I would follow it back to see where it goes and check to see if it has any voltage on it. Normally a pink wire is what is used for the HEI but not sure what that one was used for.

Re: what is this red wire?

yea i got no clue, i followed it back, it goes behind the distributor into a bundle of wires and then i lose sight of it. but all the gauges work fine and its apparently not hurting the truck running, its causing no problems i guess, but id like to know what it goes to. im sure someone on here knows where it goes to

What year is your truck? Possibly for a TH400 kickdown switch. Would have been two wires to it though.

Re: what is this red wire?

I think it was originally for the idle / air control solenoid as pictured. Do you have a/c?

If you went with one of the online diagrams there are a LOT of things missing along with running and option differences that are simply not there. Again as I tell everyone a factory service and overhaul manual gives you the best start and a common reference if you have questions.
Also with this type of question a lot of basic information should be given like series 10 or 20, engine type and if original or a conversion. A/C changes things too. Trans. type and year make a difference as well. A '72 C10 auto A/C is going to have a very different harness than a '69 C30 stripper stick.

its 10 series, 350 c.i., original motor and three speed auto trans, and it does have a/c

Re: what is this red wire?

It is part of the TCS harness, plugs into the fuse block Ing. unfused, it suppose to be pluged into idle solenoid.
