What is stock headlight trim supposed to look like?
Here's my truck. Notice how the trim around the lights is dark. Not sure if its rust or what? What was it like originally for this truck? '69 LWB Custom20. Is it supposed to be chrome looking like the replacements you can buy?

Pretty sure supposed to be chrome. Probably got rusty and scratched up and PO decided a coat of paint would look a little better.

Re: What is stock headlight trim supposed to look like?
My `70 panel has black trim around the light, i never painted it, P.O. never did anything on the truck. Some trucks might have come that way.

Re: What is stock headlight trim supposed to look like?
Factory correct has the black outline and the black headlight door.
Here are some factory 69-70 clips and a truck I have shown before that is overall very close to your truck. Last is a very original '69 low mileage camper. If you don't have one yet a factory brochure has nice information and a reprint is very affordable.

Re: What is stock headlight trim supposed to look like?
Thanks guys. And, as always Tim thanks for the info and the photos.
This is great to know. Looks like I can just restore the ones I've got, and paint them black Posted via Mobile Device |

Dig the late model Chev wheels on your rig Mister-B. Same ones that are on my '06 Silverado 2500HD.

Re: What is stock headlight trim supposed to look like?
The 69s and 70s were not only painted satin black, they were also steel rather than aluminum.

Re: What is stock headlight trim supposed to look like?
They look so much better in black.
I know it's dumb, but a pet peeve of mine is seeing a 69-70 with chrome or silver ones.

Re: What is stock headlight trim supposed to look like?
I'm sure that my headlight doors on my '69 are aluminum. They're originals and they were black....well-aged so kinda dark grey. But Aluminum....not steel.

Re: What is stock headlight trim supposed to look like?
By the way, is that black slatted piece behind the grill factory? It looks different than mine. Mine has small squares, and it's gray. I guess it probably used to be black, but it still looks different than yours, and I would have thought a '70 would the same as a '69?

Re: What is stock headlight trim supposed to look like?
Strange. Are you sure they are aluminum? Mine are the ones that have been on the truck since I bought it new in 1969, and every 69 or 70 I've seen in junkyards have had steel. A lot of trucks have aluminum that have been painted black since GM hasn't made them in steel for years.

Re: What is stock headlight trim supposed to look like?
The Trim 69 and 70 pieces are made from steel and painted black.
69 and 70 Grilles were a little different as you identified.

Re: What is stock headlight trim supposed to look like?
Think 70CST's picture pretty much covers it but here are some '69 pasteups.
