Do I need a Puller or tie rod separator?
Going to replace manual with power steering. I need to remove the end of the pitman arm that is not attached to the gear box. Will a tie rod separator do the job or do I neeed a puller?

I use a pickle fork. I cheat, though, because my pickle fork is on an air chisel.

Before you go to the trouble be sure that arm is the same for power vs non power. I always use a puller but heat the arm around the sahft with a toruch first. Of course you run the risk of burning up the seals on the old box, but if it is going in the scrap pile anyway, who cares?

I loosen the bolt almost all the way. Then a sharp thwak with a mini sledge. No problem. I have a real nice Snap-On pickle fork but it never gets used.
