Vortec Heads on eBay
These look like they might be a good deal for someone.

Re: Vortec Heads on eBay
I wouldn't want anyone getting messed around buying these, they appear like a 3 year old ported them and didn't know what the heck they were even doing! Reseach Vortec heads and most will agree vortec fast burn heads flow great with no porting work needed. Vortecs flow well on the intake side for a daily driver or even a mild street motor, so it is only good just to lightly clean up the intake ports...They didn't flow so well on the exhaust side so some mild port/polish work on the exhaust side is good. And as for gasket matching these heads it is not needed as it will not gain any HP. And the stock valves are good to keep, as they will suffice up to 5000 RPM with out no breathing problems once so ever. These in bone stock form are a great up grade for any early 2 piece rear main seal block and will out flow and make better HP than any early small block heads i.e. Double hump, Camel Hump....So basic up grades start with just these services listed below.
1. Clean up intake ports don't go wild. 2. Mild port and polish on the exhaust side. 3. Install screw in studs for running a cam over .500 lift 4. Install Comp Beehive springs for anything over .450 lift cam "these are drop in springs" 5. Deck heads to make sure they are flat 6. Comp valve job, and also these heads from what I have read had a 5 angle valve job that takes a little more doing.... 7. They use self aligning rockers which can be done away with by using guide plates 8. Clearance for the push rods should be drilled out to 1/2'' or .500 when using 1.6 ratio rockers and 3/8 push rods. 9. They can be drill/tapped for the early style sbc valve covers as the narrow style rockers are needed for the center style/bolt valve covers.... Hope this helps....

Re: Vortec Heads on eBay
Yes, thank you for the info. I did not know all that about Vortecs. I noticed these were cheaper than most I find on eBay and figured we'd get some good input like this.

Re: Vortec Heads on eBay
Great info, I have a set of these sitting in the shed waiting. You don't hear too much about installing them, but what you do hear is good... I have heard they have a smaller combustion chamber, so proper head gasket thickness is needed. Any more info 19Chevy67C10? Is there a better year?

Re: Vortec Heads on eBay
They have 1.940 exhaust valves and 1.5 intake valves. There are 2 casting numbers one ending in 906 the other ending in 062. The 906 heads can be found on the 1996-1997 350 vortec motors and the 062 can be found on the 1998-1999 Vortec 350's. The 062 heads are supposed to flow a little better, but both casting numbers were cast in the same mold. The 062 heads have like a saw tooth pattern on the ends where the acc's bolt up. It's good to go back with straight stem valves "VS" under-shrouded or under cut stems as this affects the swirl like pattern adversly...As far as the gasket goes it's all in the quinch area so it would be good to zero deck the block, deck the heads and caculate the type of compressed gasket thickness needed for the type of piston cr the block would be running and piston to valve clearance. Which I use play dough to check p to v clearance...If anyone can add more or if I'm wrong please correct as I'm only human and I hope this info helps people...Also vortec take a different intake manifold and it's best to not try to adapt the early sbc manifold to the vortec heads.... With an RV cam and a good intake/carb set-up running headers you should be at around 300-350 range pretty easy depending on cam and pistons used....And around 380-400 ft pounds of torque...But this is a very vague question but it would be my guess for a mild cam and a good carb/intake and headers setup....

Re: Vortec Heads on eBay
Also as far as the 327 question I wouldn't be about to comment on it cause a 327 has a different bore size than the stock 350 at 3.999 I have never seen anyone put vortec 350 heads on a 327 maybe someone will chime in!

Re: Vortec Heads on eBay
The 350, 327 and Chevy 302 are all 4.000 std bore engines. The Vortec heads will work well on a 327.

Re: Vortec Heads on eBay
Thats right on Sean! it's all coming back now the only differance was the stroke....I think a 327 has a 3-1/4'' stroke, same bore though. The 350 has a 3.480 stroke..
Thanks for posting! Kev..

Re: Vortec Heads on eBay
Wow, $325 for iron vortec heads.
I'm so glad I'm into the LS stuff. I just scored a set of LS3 heads for $350. They're assembled, aluminum, and flow 330 cfm on the intake side bone stock.
