Steering column HELP!
Ok so I got a 85 gmc k2500 HD like three months ago. It's a total nightmare but has potential. I literally have rewired everything. So I had to get at the blinker set up in the steering column to fix it. After I was done with that I went to put everything back together. In the process I had to turn the steering shaft a pinch to get the lock plate on where I wanted it and busted the upper bearing.
Here's the issue. I can't get the bearing to stay in position. There is a wedged washer that goes inside of the bearing to push the bearing to make it sit right. But no matter what I do that washer moves up and you can feel that shaft is ouy of place. Anyone have any experience with steering columns??? 85 gmc k2500 HD, 4WD. 5.7 carb. Power steering, no cruise or intermediate wipers. Tilt column. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Steering column HELP!
I had the same issue on my 87. In fact I have to take it back apart because the blinker and high beam switch is not working.
As far as I can tell, it's suppose to be like that. There is a spring that pushes and holds that bearing center in place. When I got mine back together, everything rolls smooth, no play. I'm figuring that's the way it's suppose to be Posted via Mobile Device
