Any comments/suggestion on applying CLR to paint?
Thinking about putting CLR on my truck, any suggestions

Excuse me if I'm showing my ignorance, but are you talking about calcium/lime/rust remover? I've used it on automotive glass, but never on paint. Are you trying to get rid of hard water spots? If so, I use a very diluted solution in water and rinse well.

Not saying it can't be done, but the directions printed on the bottle say do not use on painted metal.

He is wanting to use it to lift the surface rust. The original paint/primer often times lies below the surface rust.

yes, it's not an uncommon "trick" and the results can be pretty cool. It is, however, really only for a patina truck only, as alluded to above. If your truck is shiny, do not use this to "enhance" it.

used it on my gto the white paint is realy thin (was rust tinted)but still has a good shine i mixed it 1to1 with water realy cleaned it up nice and didnt hurt the shine

My red paint is faded and flaking off in some spots with a teal blue underneath... Was thinking about using the scotch brite pad with CLR to create a more worn look...thanks for the thread links, going to check them out
