winch-brand?

anybody know what brand winch this is? year? can't find any name or tag on it. it's a pto and was on my 61k10. the yokes have a 1" round shaft with 1"-- 1/4" key-way on the winch end and 1-1/4" round and 5/16" keyed on the pto. has 1000 series/6 series u-joints.

I need to build a new shaft also. is there a way to put a flange (bolted together)on one end? had to use a puller after removing the u-joint to get the yoke off the winch. (years of rust) has 1000 series u-joints-- thanks in adv.

Re: winch-brand?

As far as the winch unit goes, never saw something like that. Looks like it does not have a drum clutch. If your PTO unit is a reversable type on the main transmission, the best bet is to go to a tractor supply or dealer,or Norther Tractor Supply. They can supply a PTO shaft that has a slip shaft. Most standard tractor PTO shafts will have the 6 spline quick disconnect ends. These should be easy to change out. Most tractor PTO shafts will come with plastic guards covering the shaft and yokes. These can be rermoved. Or, go on line, and download the latest Neapco PTO catalog. It will have all the parts to make up a PTO shaft, and they also have the same tractor PTO shafts. Note: 1000 series PTO yokes are about the smallest series offered. They are good for about 10 HP. Also, PTO yokes/shafts now days are metric series or SAE series, You can use any type but all the parts must be in the same series.

Re: winch-brand?

Looks like an old Pierce industrial winch like was on my dad’s 1948 wrecker. The Pierce on the old '48 wrecker was not original but a replacement from the 70's. Pierce is still in business where you might be able to pick their brain for identification. There were a lot of different brands of those kind of winches on the market on various vehicles but I think Pierce was the most common.

Re: winch-brand?

I think you are right D/L. looking at their pto winches, they are very similar in looks. this was a home built setup and was on a search & rescue truck. they had a custom rear bumper (3/8 plate) with tie-down places to hold the truck when pulling. all this on a 1/2 ton? must of got a deal or wanted a short w/b. thanks again for the info

Re: winch-brand?

so should i keep it? the truck is being built as a 4x4 truck, not a stock show truck. don't have the org. eng. rad. as the truck was a 6cyl and now a V8. looks like they cut the front motor mount off the cross-member and welded it back on the rear of the crossmember. probably never use it, but you never know. they also cut the front of the frame and welded the bumper mounts-------and it go's on---------still having fun though------

Re: winch-brand?

I say keep it. It's a cool, original (maybe), period piece. Even if you don't use it, it's already paid for.
