Air Horn Option?

Hi guys! I just (sadly) sold my 1972 3/4 ton Cheyenne 4wd true survivor truck. I bought it from the original owner many years ago. It still had the original paint, motor, tranny, transfer case, etc.. It even still had the running boards on it that he put on it many years ago! The original owner gave me a ton of literature that sold with the rig including purchase information, protecto plate, a dealer option manual, etc.. Some of the parts I kept (the new owner did not want them) were the two chrome air horns the original owner gave me and some new GM sill plates that are still in their wrapping (I have them on Ebay). The question for all of you is....according to the dealer option brochure the new owner has, it looks like the air horns WERE an option. Are they worth anything? For now, they are taking up space in my shop shelves. Maybe they are worth a ton. Or, maybe they are worth nothing more than scrap. They are not pitted out, the chrome still shines, and they have minimal use. Any input is GREATLY appreciated! Thanks!

Steve

Re: Air Horn Option?

This should make it easy. Also are you refering to a dealer installed accessory vs factory installed?

Re: Air Horn Option?

Thanks Tim. Man, that is too easy! While I do feel dumb, I feel better now knowing how to do it!

Back to the topic....the brochure I am talking is a GM accessories catalog that was (I believe) given to buyers at the dealership. I assume dealers then installed the parts the customers paid extra for. In this case, the original owner bought these and must of had them on the truck for a very short while or maybe never at all?

There are two of them...one of them is definitely shorter than the other. For a purist restoring a truck, maybe these have value. Or, maybe these are not worth anything. Basically, my knowledge of these is similar to my picture posting before your post Tim! Any input on these is very helpful. Basically, would any of you even bother trying to sell them?

Re: Air Horn Option?

With a quick search on eBay, they are worth anywhere from $25 and up depending on condition....

These "are" big truck horns. The GM accessory brochures were offered at GM dealerships to aid in accessory sales, either to be installed as part of a new vehicle delivery, upfitted by dealers post-purchase,or cash & carry like any other part to be installed elsewhere (or left on a shelf for 40+ years). The brochures covered a sampling of accessories available, including those for medium duty/heavy duty trucks...like those horns.
