700r4 shifter in 77
I can only get OD, drive, and sometimes 2nd shifted at the column. Definitely not all the way down to 1st. The truck was originally a th-350 and had no issues. Is it simply the linkage and I should swap to a Kugel set up or something similar? Help is appreciated

The steering column has a shift plate in it for a 3spd. With the 700r4 the throw if the column isn't long enough and bootomed out before it hits 1st. Change the steering column or change the plate by disassembling the whole top of the column

Not to hijack your thread, but did you have any issues with the crossmember when you swapped in the 700? I am having to move mine back and drop the center of it about 3".

I opted to put in the steering column out of the donor 89 I had for my 78. It's cool too because you can wire up the wiper delay too if you want it.

Re: 700r4 shifter in 77
no issues, everyone has to move the stock crossmember back. I didnt have to drop the center of it though. Why did you do that? Where did it interfere? I just made sure to have the right transmission mount between the Xmember and the tranny and it worked fine after being moved back
