350 tbi ect sensor

95 model specifically, does anyone know what the range of resistance would be on the ect sensor in the intake manifold?

for instance, if I were looking for potentiometer with the same resistance values what would I be looking for and is there any chance the ecu can adjust for values higher or lower than the ect sensor can put out?

Re: 350 tbi ect sensor

The sensor specifications are the same across the different model years and makes.

Specifications:

From this thread:

Threads with useful information on TBI trucks can be found here:

You could also find coolant sensor specs with a search.

If you get to far out of the factory sensor spec range the computer will set a trouble code and ignore the sensor reading.

There is no reason to try to run the system even close to the edge of the sensor range.

Re: 350 tbi ect sensor

Thanks, that was just the info I was looking for, I tried searching but I used google and was too specific I suppose.

Thinking maybe I could use that info for a cheap fueling mod or a hidden switch anti theft device. If the truck doesn't want to run right it would in theory be harder to take off with, wouldn't be the first theft I've had to deal with

Re: 350 tbi ect sensor

You're welcome!

I would not mess with the coolant sensor circuit because the system is so dependent on it being correct, and any resistance in wiring you do can affect the mixture injected.

If you cut the power to the injectors it will not run. Some years have a fuse labeled injectors.

Re: 350 tbi ect sensor

I was thinking a dual position switch / on position one to a variable resistance switch, position two on back to the factory circuit.

I was thinking position one could either slightly enrich or lean out the fuel mixture or just completely throw it out of whack and make it impossible to drive but could still let it start and give me a fighting chance to get out the door on the off chance someone does decide to try their luck...

Why all the tricky stuff to let them "almost" get away with stealing your truck, and give you a "fighting chance" to confront them, when it's easy to wire up a hidden kill switch that totally disables the ignition? Why take any chance of losing your truck, or getting shot?

Re: 350 tbi ect sensor

I like to make things difficult. Always have. On top of that I just really like switches and buttons. I've always got more than one deterrent. To me, starting a vehicle should feel like starting a jet. Tons of switches following a certain procedures along with a systems check. miss just one step or flip one too many switches or hit the wrong button at the wrong time or have one setting out of its go zone and no start.

I couldn't tell you where or how the need to do so got in my head, but its been stuck there forever. Back up circuits, bypass circuits etc, these things HAVE actually gotten me home in a pinch.

My last truck I was the only person who could get it started, keep it ruining, and motivate it down the street. Always got me where I needed to go, but was sure to stall in the driveway for anyone else. And that's how I like it.

I'm just exploring new ideas and options at this point, and I think I have a pretty slick place for a hidden kill switch and other things of the sort.
