Dual fuel Tanks
Ok, so i finally got all parts to put the dual fuel tanks working....But hooked all up and only the right side(passenger) works... Bought new 6 port valve because i had none.... I have looked at the wiring diagrams, and i a bit confused... Should i have 12v at the selcetor switch? what actually makes the valve work?

Re: Dual fuel Tanks
Which valve did you install... Single wire or WeatherPak plug?

Re: Dual fuel Tanks
You can goolge the wiring diagram, thats what i did for mine, but you have a wire in from each tank for the level, on that goes to the gas guage, and then the other two are + and - that switch polarity from the switch for the position. So you 12v is at the swich.

Re: Dual fuel Tanks
ok seems i do have 12 volts at the switch, but only while cranking....
Also I think my new valve is bad... Had an old valve and ran a bench test valve makes noise and can switch polarity...works both ways. the new valve does not even make a sound... |

Re: Dual fuel Tanks
PDF scans of almost all of the OEM 73-91 CK RV GM wiring diagrams can be found by following my signature link. The fuse panel socket details are on the first page or two after 1986.
The fuse panel has several aux power sockets that change based on ignition switch position. I think there is at least 1 fuse panel power socket that's only hot in the Start position. The tank system should be plugged into one of the fuse panel "A" sockets that are hot with the ignition in the Run position only.

Re: Dual fuel Tanks
.....Yes i am excited because after a good night sleep....I got it to work.... I went back to the basics. I took the supply line from the left tank to see if i had fuel coming out ....it was dry, but when i took the return line off it was wet, so took the tank down again....And yes i crossed the line some how at the tank...it was dark when i put them on... So i rearranged tmy lines...cranked it .....and i heard the engine roar....only took me an an hour today,,,,,,what a pain...but in the end its all worth it....I have dual fuel tanks working....
Thanks for the schematics.....they were a help....found out the power comes from the fuel pump relay.......so once i had that it was on.... Thanks again everyone... |
