any ideas
I purchased a 1967 chevy short bed a couple months ago, and decided to start tear down yesterday. After taking the front end off I noticed someone has cut the frame. I have no idea why. I thought the frame had been bent, but i checked the measurements and the frame is straight. Any ideas? I have circled the cut spot.

Hard to tell, it looks like the engine is setting back from its normal position. I am not sure though.
Some people cut the frame to allow for header clearance, but that is just a wild guess on my part. Hopefully some one else will chime in.

curious if that was done to make the lower rad hose fit without rubbing. perhaps they changed the rad to one with a straight outlet and they had a severe kink in the hose. with the cutout the hose probally didnt kink

I would guess the same, cut out to clear the rad hose, I know my lower hose sets on my frame about right in that same spot.

It looks to me like someone bent the cross brace at some point or added the sway bar at least. I would put dimes to dollars that they couldn't cut that inside rivet and decided to cut the hole for access, just a theory though. I have a hard time getting to that rivet as well but have never cut the frame. Good luck with your build and quest for answers. Mike Posted via Mobile Device |

radiator hose be my guess, i put a rubber insulator on mine where it hits there, the rivets can be cut from the bottom with an air hammer then pushed on thru with a different bit on the air hammer from the bottom, never thought of using a heater core for a tranny cooler

I think you guys are right with the radiator hose, not the best way to fix it in my opinion, but the tear down has started on my project
