Re: specialist for lift spindles ???

I think you can use a b body spindle but you need a taller upper a arm.

Re: specialist for lift spindles ???

yeap i want to raise my truck, cuz the installed camaro clip drops the frame to the ground.

i have installed an airride suspension , so far it is driveable when the suspension is fully pumped up. But the angle of the ball joints is not the best and the upper control arm is almost touching the frame..

Therefore i definitly need a lift spindle...reinstalling the subframe is not possible..to much work :-(

thanks for ur help

regards from germany

Re: specialist for lift spindles ???

Does it have a drop spindle on the front subframe now? Maybe you just need to find a stock height spindle which would lift you up 2" vs. your drop spindle.

Just a thought.

Re: specialist for lift spindles ???

Achim,

The stock spindle will have the "pin" that the rotor goes onto at a lower point. Drop spindles will have it higher. Pictures below for reference. First one is a drop spindle, and the second is a stock spindle. You can see how the stock spindle has the "pin" located lower down on the spindle.

can you post a pic of your truck? you have air-ride and it goes to low when aired-out? that is a first time i have ever heard anyone complain abou that.

we modify are suspensions to make the doors sit on the ground..

how high are you tryin to lift and or drive?

there are pleny of ideas i can give you, just trying ot understand your situation more..

couple of example pictures..

Re: specialist for lift spindles ???

ok no problem , below some pics of my setup....

The problem is that the camaro subframe on my 51 chevy pickup is installed in a very low stance....
As u can see on the pic we have cut and widened the original frame, than we have insert the subframe into the original frame.
Than welded all the way around.
I guess that is the best way to install a subframe for safety. But the stance is very low...
At the moment i do have slam airbags SS-6 installed , with the original control arms and custom made brackets....

Last weekend i did some cutouts at the subframe for more clearance.

So at the moment i just can pump up the truck about 4 inches off the ground.
As u know the airbag could do a lot more, but the upper control arm are the limited factor. That means fully pumped up the upper control arm is bending to the frame.

In total i have 2 negative points:

first: just 4 inches clearance to the ground
second : extrem angle of the control arms and ball joints in driving position

here the pics :

hope u have some solutions for me.....til now i am tending to s-10 lift spindles

regards from germany

Re: specialist for lift spindles ???

yes i see your problem, your are at "full lift" for a 4 inch high ride height... no good.

honestly to me the simplest thing here is to Z that front end and raise it up. you already have all your parts (control arms, spindles etc) there is really no need to put a band-aid on the problem.

i will do some searches and see if i can find a camaro lift spindle, but i would say it wont exist.

you could also cut the control arms and step them down to get the lift.

there are also balljoint spacers...

Re: specialist for lift spindles ???

What gen or year is the camaro clip if you know.Reason I'm asking i did some digging the 2nd gen 70-81 has the tall spindles already so swapping to a b body on a 2nd gen clip would be pointless. The b body you want 84 and newer which is your caprice impala and the spindles will only give you a inch lift if that. The only way i see fixing the problem is cutting off the clip lowering it down and rewelding it back the frame.

Re: specialist for lift spindles ???

hy

to z the subframe is not possible , because the technical inspection agency in germany does not allow such kinds of customizing...

@andrew
If i would get 1inch of lift with B-body spindles + that ball joint spacers would be great an ok for me...

but do u really think that just the swap to a tall b spindle will get 1 inch lift ??

thanks
achim

Re: specialist for lift spindles ???

From what i read its about a inch i haven't do it myself to really know. But it depends if your clip is 1st gen or 2nd gen camaro if its 2nd gen the stock spindles are same height as the b body so swapping them would be pointless.

Re: specialist for lift spindles ???

you may want to email or call Mr. Max Fish who owns Bio Kustomz in California. He specializes in custom and altered spindles and is world famous for it. plus his prices are usually better than the aftermarket stuff out there.

just google Bio Kustomz. He even has a short film coming out about the work he does.

Re: specialist for lift spindles ???

thanks for the advise with Max Fish ..

So today i have simulated a ball joint spacer (see the pic), with the additional clearance between control arm and frame , i can pump up the truck quite a lot.

But when the truck is pumped up completly, the angle of the ball joints are at the limit.

Are there ball joints on the market with more travel ?

Or some upper control arms which do have another ball joints position ?

In driving position the angle of the ball joints are ok as u can see on the third / fourth pic

Re: specialist for lift spindles ???

alright thanks for the information..

Pls do u know any website for the ball joint spacers ??

I am not able to find any for the F-Body control arms.

Generally what do u think about those spacers , what are the pro and cons.
i am a bit afraid of the stability ??
I would install a 1 inch spacer...

Thanks
