What is this electrical piece?

Does anyone know what the electrical connector circled in red is for? mine is charred like it shorted out at one time and the wire I assume is connected to it on the firewall block is melted as well. The truck seems to run fine so I don't think it is affecting anything, but it would be nice to know what it is and if it will cause problems in the future.

Wink Re: What is this electrical piece?

It's to small for me to make out. Can you get it a little bigger? I don't think it's suppose to be mounted there either form factory anyway.

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

This actually isn't a picture of my truck, but I have the same connector in the same spot, the only difference is my truck is non-ac

Re: What is this electrical piece?

That might be TCS wiring stuff.

Don't really need it, mines kinda balled up in the same area.

Transmission Controlled Spark.

I think, something to do with spark/timing when the trans was in certain gear.

Most everyone's has been disconnected, don't think it's a big deal.

Someone with more knowledge will hopefully chime in.

Talking Re: What is this electrical piece?

It looks like a circuit breaker to me. If it's not wired up to anything get rid of it.

Re: What is this electrical piece?

What color wires go to it, and how many?

Re: What is this electrical piece?

If it is the TCS system, I believe you will have a green wire going to a temp sensor on the passenger side head and another wire that goes to the trans. They usually, depending on the year, would go to another solenoid on the carb or intake that would control the vac advance. Basically, if your truck/car was not at temp, it would not allow the advance on distributor to engage until the engine warmed up.

Re: What is this electrical piece?

It looks as if it is the high-speed A/C fan relay. Check and see if your fan works on the highest setting.

Re: What is this electrical piece?

It is definitely the relay for the TCS system. The feature shut off the vacuum advance until the engine was above 32 degrees F and in high gear. The other parts that may or may not still be on the truck is the vacuum switch mounted to the left of the carb interrupting the vac to the vac advance can, a temp switch in the passenger head, and a switch screwed into a port in the trans.

When/if you remove the parts, keep them safe. Guys doing a full factory resto want them. That's where mine went to.

Also, the power wire is a great source for an electric choke as it is Key On and already loomed in..

Re: What is this electrical piece?

Thanks for the info. I will have to look for any additional pieces. For additional info if anyone is curious, my truck is a 1970 w/a 307 and 3 on the tree non-ac truck.

Mine was originally a 307 3 on the tree. Never did have one on mine.
