Is it normal for my tranny to
act this way..? When I back out of my garage in reverse and then put it in drive ,,there is a hesitation before engaging and taking hold to go forward.. A guy I know who is a pretty good mechanic says that is normal ..as there is no bands to tighten like there used to be ..if this is true ,,then what is a ok lenghth of time should I be waiting on the gear change?

Re: Is it normal for my tranny to
I had a plow truck that did that, had over 200k miles before I sold it. Not sure how common it is but it never got any worse. maybe not much help but at least your truck isnt the only one haha

Re: Is it normal for my tranny to
You have a 4L60E, LR4 is a 4.8L.
The Foward Clutch Accumulator Piston is made of plastic & can crack....Causing a slow forward engagment, TransGo has a Aluminum replacement. Excessive Forward Clutch clearence.....Most New 4L60E's have more than .080 clutch clearence, A well used one will have .100 Plus.....I like .040". Slow reverse release is another issue, Chamfering the Reverse land on the manual valve will make a quicker release.....This can very well be your issue??......When shifting from Reverse to D4....Pause in Neutral for a couple seconds....Then shift to D4, If the forwards latch right up....I will walk you through chamfering the manual valve. |

How far into the tranny does one have to go to do the things you suggest to tighten up the slack when shifting?
