help me decide- c10 vs c20
Guys
Im looking to buy a 69-72 C10 or C20 I want to drop a 5.3 and OD trans in and make it a daily driver. Most of the time, I wont be hauling anything major, but at times i might tow my camaro. Seems like a lot more C20s for sale... If i went with a c20, would my mpg be worse than if i waited for a C10? Would that C10 handle towing the camaro? thanks guys |

Re: help me decide- c10 vs c20
Personally, I like long bed C20's. They're more functional and I think they look better. Mileage would have to be a bit worse with the c20, due to the extra weight. I would think towing between the two would be sixes, other than you can get some pretty beefy springs on a 3/4 ton c20. Not sure if it is common, or even possible to get that on a C10?

Re: help me decide- c10 vs c20
You should be able to pick up a c20 longbed out there for a real good price, do your motor swap and tow that camaro.
A c10 long box will cost more but still get the towing done. C10 shortbeds are for making hotrods out of. Welcome aboard by the way.

He means it would be about the same.
(Six to one, half dozen to another) I believe I got that right.

Re: help me decide- c10 vs c20
If it's going to be a daily driver, I'd go with the C10. I've owned both, and there's a significant difference in ride quality. A C10 will handle occasional towing.

Re: help me decide- c10 vs c20
thats what i thought too, but didnt want to assume
my other concerns with that c20: heavier brakes/suspension/rotating mass = much worse mpg, more $ to replace/upkeep im just wondering if i should wait out a nice c10? thanks guys |

Re: help me decide- c10 vs c20
A long 10 would be better on fuel than a 20 due to weight. If ride quality is an issue get a coil spring 1/2 ton for sure.

Re: help me decide- c10 vs c20
Well, these things have been around awhile so crawl under and look at what your considering buying. A 1/2 ton should have a 12 bolt and a 3/4 ton could have a Dana 60, you just have to study which is which (if you don't already know). Your going to need a mid range gear set for a daily driver anyway.

Re: help me decide- c10 vs c20
i believe that it would be safer to use a c-20 for towing, it is built for that, bigger brakes are needed, a c-20 will ride stiffer, you can still tow with a c-10 but if towing a car and trailer i would vote for the 20.....

maybe i am picky then im looking for AC truck, something without the original motor (going to sell whatever is in there to help fund the 5.3) and im not too partial to white... that orange one, even without the AC, is still in the back of my mind i should go drive that one and see |

Re: help me decide- c10 vs c20
hey bugmasta
that truck looks great! i actually dont mind riding stock height. i like the look of C20s higher up too, im mainly just trying to squeeze out the mpg's i can, given its a pickup. if a C20 is going to cost me 2-3 mpg over the equivalent C10, then im gonna look for a c10. think it will be that big of a difference? |

Re: help me decide- c10 vs c20
In my experience, it's not going to be that much of a difference. The rear axle ratio and how you drive will have a lot more effect than whether it's a C10 or a C20. I would drive both before you decide, though. And I'd look for some potholes while you're doing it.

Re: help me decide- c10 vs c20
Just some numbers to consider. But a coil C/20 would be my choice for your project if you are going to be towing. Another consideration is if you own or will be renting a trailer.
