EZ-EFI™ Self Tuning Fuel Injection System - Any Good?

Just wondering if anyone has used one of these or knows some one that has. Price is too high for me but hopefully they come down a bit some day. I would like to upgrade to an EFI motor but I am too sentimental and want to keep the motor my father and I rebuilt together when I was a kid ( built up 327).

If one of these units realy did work good it would be the best of both worlds.

FAST produces great products in general. If you have ample time to learn, Megasquirt is a great option. It's basically a DIY system.

There are threads on this system all over the board. Use the search box for lots of reading. Here is a thread I had book marked.

Re: EZ-EFI™ Self Tuning Fuel Injection System - Any Good?

Its a good system, the only downside I see is the lack of timing control. Although not necessary, being able to control timing is typically a major advantage for EFI systems.

I installed a different self tuning EFI system which can control timing. When using my old vacuum advance distributor, I was getting about 10-11 mpg at 65 mph. When I switched over to a GM small cap computer controlled distributor and tuned it with the computer software, I went up to 16mpg. Clearly, my vacuum advance distributor wasn't set up right, but it was really easy to setup correctly with the computer software. The computer can also handle a knock sensor setup.

Re: EZ-EFI™ Self Tuning Fuel Injection System - Any Good?

I'm just digging up old threads, trying to find information on switching my gen 1 sbc to Computer Controlled Timing.
I recently purchased the FiTech EFI for $995 that features Timing Control. Once I get the TBI all setup, I want to move on to Computer Controlled Timing.
I'm searching the Internet to find all I need to make this upgrade.

Re: EZ-EFI™ Self Tuning Fuel Injection System - Any Good?

The fast EZ-EFI 2.0 does control timing if you use their dual sync distributor or a crank trigger.
I'm using the crank trigger on a multiport (ramjet) setup. Install and setup was super easy and fired up beautifully. Unfortunately that is as far as I've gotten until I get the rest of the truck back together.

I have a FiTech sitting on the bench waiting to go into my 69 Camaro. This thing looks very good.

Any reason these kits wouldn't be reliable? If I am tossing a few Gs at one, would be nice to be able to drive 2500 miles without worrying. Yes anything can break, but you know what I mean.

I've got about 5,000 miles on the FAST EZ EFI 1.0 in my Blazer

5,000 miles include the Rubicon, (2) week long trips to Moab, one Pismo dunes trip, multiple local trips, and hours.... hours.....hours.... of off camber rock crawling. I run a Pro Billet MSD dizzy.

No matter what system you go with, do yourself a big favor and ditch the external, return-less fuel pump for a proper return style in-tank fuel pump. I run the MSD Atomic throttle body unit in my Blazer. It controls the timing and runs like a champ thanks to the timing control AND consistent fuel pressure/delivery.

Could you please tell me what exact distributor you are using? I've been searching for days, and people say small cap HEI, but I'm not sure which one exactly will work with my 327.

Re: EZ-EFI™ Self Tuning Fuel Injection System - Any Good?

FWIW, I use an MSD Dual Sync (tm) because it has both cam and crank position sensors, which are required to be able to do sequential fuel injection. It does require an ignition box though (MSD-6AL, the classic, in my case).

Re: EZ-EFI™ Self Tuning Fuel Injection System - Any Good?

I have a friend that installed the ez-efi 2.0 retrofit kit on a Camaro. he had a ton of problems with it picking up interference with his msd box and pretty much any other wiring that was close to it

Thanks for the heads up. I was planning on mounting the ECU and the ignition box side by side.

Re: EZ-EFI™ Self Tuning Fuel Injection System - Any Good?

the main power wire also cannot or should not be attached in the same spot as an ignition box. with the msd and the ecu main power wires connected to the same post on the junction box the car would barely even run, moving the msd to the battery a couple inches away solved that part

Re: EZ-EFI™ Self Tuning Fuel Injection System - Any Good?

Fast does mention several times that the power wires must be connected directly to the battery. Being as my battery is behind the rear wheels I was planning on connecting to a junction point off the starter but I'm rethinking that now.
