WTB Rear Hatch Handle Hardware

Like the title says, I am looking for the hardware (specifically the handle, spring and retaining washer) for the double wall hatch on my 72 Blazer. I am tracking that I can get a replacement handle from Brothers or a hardware store, but the rest of my original assembly rusted into oblivion. I am also open to anybody's ideas on how to replicate the parts on my own. I'm sure plenty of forum members have tackled this before. Thanks.

Re: WTB Rear Hatch Handle Hardware

I guess I need clarification... do you need the latches and the rods or the metal plate with the square hole the rods attach to? Or do you need the mounting bracket that the whole assembly attaches to inside the top by the bolts that go through the sill of the hatch. I bought the one from Brothers, it is the same one you get at Lowes, just 30 buck higher. I did not have a handle at all and used the one from Lowes.

Re: WTB Rear Hatch Handle Hardware

I found a handle at Home Depot earlier today. Like you said, the same as what Brothers is selling just cheaper. Now what I need is the metal plate with the square hole that the rods attach too, and the spring that wraps around the rod behind the handle. I've got the mounting bracket and the rest of the hardware, it's just all the parts that are on the handle that are shot.

Re: WTB Rear Hatch Handle Hardware

I see. I don't have that part. I don't have a spring in mine at all and it works pretty well. It does not spring back like original but the outside latches pull it back straight when closed and latched. As far as the rod attaching plate goes, I think you could make it, the only prob is the square hole. A fabrication/welding /machine shop maybe? Trust me I feel your pain I drove mine with no hatch for about 2 years because of the handle and the hinge mounting plates being roached. I would pull it all out and shoot you some measurements but it would be quite painful for me now that its all together and works well. Somebodies gotta have one apart here that could give you a template though.

No worries, I appreciate the input. Do you have a recommendation for a fabrication/machine shop in Dallas?

Re: WTB Rear Hatch Handle Hardware

Here is what I have in my bag of extra hatch parts, I think I may have some of the metal plate/covers as well . If any of this is what you need let me know. One of the handles was cut off in the plate it goes through, the piece is siezed in there, but would probably come out with some work.

Mint 68, can you send me a better pic of the circled item? It looks like one of the pieces I need, hard to tell without getting a closer look. Is that the plate with the cut off piece you are referring to?

Re: WTB Rear Hatch Handle Hardware

If anyone else reading this has that same part, I need one. I'm confused where that snap ring came from?

I don't know if this will help anyone or not but here is an FAQ I posted about disassembling the handle to get the lock cylinder out.

I'm still tryin to figure out how to separate the spring and rod bracket from the handle shaft so the handle can be removed from the hatch
