Intake manifold question

Does anybody know if the intake manifold for a 350 or other sbc would fit a 305, or do I need one thats made for vortec heads? I'm pretty sure the bolts line up, just not sure about the port sizes and such.

Re: Intake manifold question

depends on the heads. If they are vortec you need a special intake.

Re: Intake manifold question

If indeed it is a 87 motor it will be what is known as a center bolt head. That refers to the fact that the valve cover bolts are held on in the center of the headinstead of the perimiter. The other main difference of note that you should be aware of is the center intake manifold mounting bolts are at a different angle than the 55-86 model years. There are numerous articles on how to modify the intakes to fit the newer different angle and I have done it several time as well it is really easy. Now don't confuse those with the Vortec heads that came on the trucks in the model years 96-98 they only have4 intake mounting points per side as opposed to 6 and the bolt holes go stright down into the head instead of an angle. The ports are much different as well and if you try to put a older intake on the vortec heads you are almost assured a vaccum leak to chase. Hope this has helped. Jim
