Question 1972 GMC Jimmy 2wd Dust Cap Size

I am looking to replace the front dust caps on my 2wd Jimmy. I have searched high and low, but so far have come up empty.

I have measured the rotor hub with a digital caliper and come up with a measurement of 2.07 inches and the existing cap I have measures 2.08 inches. The closest cap I have come up with is a Dorman 13977 which measures 2 3/32. The problem with this cap is it just slides right in with very little resistance.

So the cap I believe I am looking for is a little bigger, something in the 2 3/16 range.

Has anyone had to replace their dust caps? If so, what dust cap did you use? Where did you buy it, name, size, etc.

Thank you,

Bob

My dorman caps are a little loose, too. You can bend the lip a little to make em snug

well that seems odd to me as 2 3/32 is 2.0938 so thats .024 bigger that the hub and that should work. i would just bend the lip out like gringo said. those caps are stamped and can very in size a little.

Re: 1972 GMC Jimmy 2wd Dust Cap Size

After much trial and error I ordered a set of Mr. Gasket #2486 and they fit like a glove. No modifications of any kind. It would have been nice if they weren't chrome.

The diameter of the cap is 2.180 in. And like I said above, they fit nice and snug.

Hope this helps someone else on their journey.
