Look up raammat

http://www.raamaudio.com/

As good if not better than dynamat. Used it in my latest build and much easier to use. Highly recommend.

A lot of guys are using the rubber roofing stuff , it's the same product as Dynomat but just a little thinner and no aluminum surface. Though it's some what thinner , you can double layer it. It's a whole lot cheaper too.

Re: Sound Deadening like Dynamat

I will be doing the roofing product when I do mine. Some Lowes carries it, other than that a roofing store. Its a peel and stick product, as in peel off the paper and it sticks like heck, I have done roofs (houses and commercial buildings) with it. You can get a whole roll for like $50, its 40 inches wide by 50 feet. They also have smaller flashing size rolls that are 9 or 12 inches wide by 50 feet. I think you can get the peel and stick flashing type with aluminum on it. Some areas of the country call it ice and water shield I believe. For you poor souls that live where you get snow build up on your roofs.
I just remembered there is a window wrap product that has aluminum on it. Its for when you are installing a new window in a new house, you line the opening with it before you set the window, and /or put it over the nailing flange of the new window.

Fatmat is asphalt based and loses adhesion when the panels get cold ( ie winter). Rhinomat and Dynamat are both EDPM rubber and the adhesion is not affected by temperature.

No offence but I think its a little colder in Canada, and I have not had any adhesion problems with the Fatmat.

Re: Sound Deadening like Dynamat

I was walking through Westlake/Ace hardware the other day looking for some plastic tubing for an aquarium and walked by the insulation and saw a roll of some stuff that looked VERY similar to Dynamat, now I doubt that it's the same stuff, but insulation is insulation right? It doesn't have adhesive on one side, buuuut I imagine with some spray on adhesive you can make it work. This is an option I am considering when it comes time to re-upholster my truck

Who cares if it's not dynamat or some other name brand sound dedener? If it works, it's going to be under carpet anyways

Re: Sound Deadening like Dynamat

I went through all of this research this summer when I did my cab - there are as many opinions out there on this stuff as there are truck owners, it seems....anyway, the first thing I'll say is that I used Raammat and was very happy with it. Secondly, and I'm going to shout here, YOU DON"T NEED TO COVER EVERY SQUARE INCH WITH A PRODUCT LIKE THIS. The function of the metal/adhesive products like Raammast is to dampen vibration, and you only need to cover 25-50% of the sheet metal to accomplish that. However, to truly quiet your interior, a product like this isn't enough.

You should put down a mat product like this first, then a layer of isolating foam (I used Ensolite, available from Raam Audio), and lastly, mass-loaded vinyl, which is a heavy product that is what actually keeps sound from passing into your truck. This is the stuff they use when they build recording studios. It's not the easiest stuff to work with, mainly because of the weight, but once you get it in it really deadens sound.

MLV is hard to source, again because of the weight the shipping can be costly. Insulation supply houses often carry it. It comes in rolls that are 4'x20', which is enough to do 2 truck cabs.

Pics of my interior project can be seen here, with all 3 steps discussed above:

Good luck!

Re: Sound Deadening like Dynamat

fatmat is my choice, but I've used the stuff from lowes that's really designed for ductwork and comes with the aluminum backing. Cost about 35.00

Re: Sound Deadening like Dynamat

i also had great results with the stuff from lowes very easy to work the contours and easy to cut with a knife no adhesion issues.
