Looking for fuel line advice

Gearing up to run all the fuel lines on my dually and looking for some advice. I was originally going to run it all in hard line, but now I’m thinking it may be less headache to use braided fuel line instead. Then again, maybe a combination of the two would be best. Looking for some input from anybody who’s been down this road before.

Also, what’s the procedure for connecting braided fuel line to hard line? Does the hard line need to be flared or anything?

Pertinent details: TBI swap; electric, frame mounted fuel pump; 10-20 p.s.i.

Braided line will be easier to work with, but pretty expensive considering the cost of the hose and all the fittings that would be required. I've seen -6AN to Saginaw fitting adapters so hooking up to the TBI would be a snap. There are fittings available for connecting braided line to hard line.

Hard line would be more difficult to work with but would be considerably cheaper. You'll of course still need short pieces of hose between components. Being only 20 PSI you can get a way with good quality EFI fuel hose. You'll want to put a barb on the end of the hard line so the hose clamp will have something to work with. This can easily be done with a double flare tool, just mush it with the die about half way and skip the second step where you fold the inside over. You could probably also use a hose clamp and barb to connect braided line to hard line.

Personally I've worked with both on various projects. On my current truck with TBI I'm going to do braided hose with nice fittings where you can see it under the hood, hard line along the frame to save some cost, and braided hose connections to the sending unit using heavy duty stainless clamps.

So with the EFI fuel line I can simply use a standard grade worm clamp at the hard line connections, provided I barb the hard line? No super-fancy $1,000 hose clamps needed?

no don't use worm clamps,heck i don't like them even for low pressure fuel

Agreed. Spend a few extra cents and use the band/nut/scew type shown.

As said before, don't use the worm clamps. My local Advance Auto had a fuel injection clamp that doesn't have the serrations for the worm drive. As a result, the clamp doesn't cut into the hose at all. It also gives a cleaner look while holding better imho.
