Mexican Blanket Dash Pad Re-do

living in south texas, I love mexican stuff and I especially have always loved mexican blankets.

After reading on this forum about the challenge it was to remove a dashpad, I went for it. laying upside down on the bench seat with my head on the floor and trying to unhook the gauge cluster was definitely a chore, but it was all worth it.

It had already been re-covered with white (ish) vinyl which I tore off. I cut the blanket to size, stapled as much as I could and hot glued the rest. popped it back in the dash and boom! taco time!

I don't have any during pictures, I figured it was something everyone had seen before. I just put a cheap grant steering wheel on for the time being until I upgrade, but I am happy with this look. will be doing a mexican blanket bench seat also in the near future.

honestly man, you'll get the most for your money ordering one on ebay. to get the color I wanted I had to actually buy a poncho and it was around $30 bucks and then I felt terrible cutting it up.

Looks good!! I like the Mexican Blanket look also.There's a primer rod(it ain't no rat) running around here with the old style blue/white striped matteress tick cover on the seat.Looks like it belongs.

If you want to feel better about cutting up a $30 poncho,just consider doing it in a Hudson Bay Point blanket next time.Look them up in Cabellas.Last I looked(several years ago) they were running over 2 bills for a single bed one.

I used my blanket I bought in Saltillo, Mexico to cover a bench I bought on the forum, when I took the square body buckets out. I felt bad cutting slits for the seat belts, but I figured I can always stitch it back once I get it recovered. I can't remember what I paid for mine back in '07. It was probably around 250-300 pesos ($25-30 back in '07).

Anyone recover a seat with a mexican blanket? I would like one that is nice and tight so it doesn't wrinkle or move around. If so post some pics.

I love the dash pad! I was thinking about doing my seat with a Mexican blanket, but I hadn't considered doing the dash.

Good idea about looking on ebay. My wife travels a lot and she was just in San Antonio...but I didn't have her look for one.

I plan on having mine professionally done in the future...
Ill probably get one and staple it for a temporary fitting,
but I'll do it with just the blanket on the back and butt cushion
parts and then vinyl on the rest. Looks real cool.

Not sure, I just do something new and a cheap every week.
I'm in the slow season at my work so I'm doing nickel and a dime
things right now.

There's a few good places downtown to get em, but honestly
it seems like most times they're a few bucks cheaper on eBay
and come with free shipping. I'd grab one here because I'm local
but I still might order the big one online.

If your wife comes down again let me know and I can pass along

I didn't really attach mine, I just got some bungee cords and ran it under the bottom and up the back. It holds it in place OKAY, but I'm not too worried about it since it is just temporary.

mine is nice and tight now, that was just a quick pic of when i set it on there. I removed the seat and added brass grommets along the edges of the blanket and tied everything together behind and underneath the seat with twine to hold it snug. The only bad thing is the blanket isnt very thick and it is already separating from getting in and out every day. I get plenty of compliments all the time about it.

That's super cool I have a grommet kit I might try that instead of stapling

Just wanted a smaller one that was easier to turn. I'm trading
