Hello, new guy here from RI. Looking to start a restoration of a 67-72 c10 soon, but still havn't purchased a truck yet. I know the trucks well, as I rebuilt a 72 back in 1993, full frame off restoration. Sadly, I got bored with it and sold it only a few years later.
I have my eye on a few trucks local, but I have a feeling I'll have to make a trip south to find a good solid body and frame to start with. I'm also surprised by the higher prices these trucks are getting...or at least what people are asking.
What should I expect to pay for for a complete truck, that runs and drives, all there and original, but still needs a full restoration?
Back when I bought my 72 in 1992, I paid $1000 for it and it was solid for the year, only needed 1 cab corner and inner fenders to be rot free.
I'm hoping to buy and build a nice classic truck and have 10-12k total invested, it'll be just a driver, maybe 3-4k miles a year.

Anyway, looking forward to poking around here and gathering valuable information.

I wound up getting mine from California. These trucks are a dime a dozen out there and a lot of them are in good shape.

good luck on the search and welcome to the forum. You won't find a better team of people and wealth of info anywhere! I've had mine for 4 years now and could not have done what we did without everyone's help and input from the site. I picked mine up and plan on a budget build for about 8k long term. I paid 1000.00 and it ran when I bought it in GA. Other than that, I saw one that looked like it had been in the rain for years, "gansta lookin" seats from something I've never seen, and a wierd homemade wood console for 2500.00. Hard to come by with the impact and looks these years had and are having on a new generation.

Welcome!! Don't forget to check thru the ads in the Classifieds section.There are usually trucks in every condition offered there.

I don't think so, but you never know. Back when I had my last 72, I jumped on the V-8 S10 bandwagon, then to sportbikes. 20 years later, I'm a bit more stable I guess

I've taken a ride to go look at this one, as it sounded really good in the add. It needs much more than the current owner thinks. The hood is rotted, bottoms of both doors, bottoms of both fenders, needs rockers, has the typical rot spot over the heater motor, inner fenders near the mounting bolts and one cab support bracket. That was just from looking at it quick. I didn't see any signs of rust anywhere on the bed, and the frame looks solid.

Does it seem like a reasonable buy, or something to stay away from?
