700r4 question

just a regular automatic. very much like the 4l60e just not controlled by a computer. if i had a choice i think i would go with the 200r4 for the gear ratios but 700r4 is a good trans

You will have to make sure you hook up the throttle valve cable to the carb linkage. Typically the 700R4 transmissions were installed in trucks with TBI. You will have to get the correct bracket to hold the TV cable at the carb. Also, the TV cable must be adjusted correctly or the trans will not shift correctly and most likely will never shift out of first gear. Make sure you use the 700R4 torque converter. It is a good swap from a 350 turbo because you can use your exsisting drive shaft.

700r4 has a 3.06 1st gear, a 1.63 2nd gear, 1.00 3rd gear and a .70 overdrive. good for smokin tires but has an over drive. once you get it in its gonna feel like it has more power over the turbo 350 you had because 1st gear is alot different.

the 2004r has a 2.74, 1.57, 1.00, and a .63 overdrive. more for cruising. basically the same gear ratios as a turbo 350 but with an overdrive. put a stall converter in it and i think its the best auto trans.

Does anybody know what size bolts hook up the torqconverter to the trans and what size bolts to the trans to the motor.

Pretty sure they are 7/16" for the converter ,but they need to be grade 8. order a set from jegs or summit "arp",not that much for piece of mind.!! 3/8 on the trans to motor 1 1/2 long,and they don't have to be grade 8.just a regular 3/8"x1 1/2"

Look at the trans crossmember for a 69-72 with a 350 turbo trans. The 700R4 is a direct swap for a 350 turbo and is the same lenth and I believe they use they same style trans mount.

The 69-72 350 turbo crossmember should bolt right up to your 66 frame.

You will not regret the 700r4! The deep first gear is nice if you are running a bigger cam. I used a 2000 stall and hooked up my TV cable and lockup wiring with a Bowtie overdrives kit. I also picked up an adjustable governor kit so the trans would shift with my cam profile. If you have a stock cam the factory points will work great. The best improvement in my opinion is brakes, the next is overdrive!

I'm running a 700r4 in my 66. Go with Bowtie Overdrives TV cable system. Simple and quick setup.

I love my overdrive I also used Bowtie overdrive for the linkage .....at first I had a 3.08 rear gear and prefornace and mileage sucked...I changed to a 3.55 and I love it and 20 mpg on highway

So I got the trans. I still need the mount and crossmember. I also have a new 2500 stall converter that I got when I got my fresh rebuilt 327. What is the next thing I need. Pics and part.numbers would be good still new to all this so learning as I go. Thanks for all the help

Once.I install the trans do i just buy the tv cable and it comes with bracket.for carb? I would like.to have braided metal cable. Is the tv cable something I should have someone who knows what there doing or is it pretty.straight forward

Bowtie overdrives includes the carb bracket and cable. I believe they have a braided cable option but I am not sure. Google them lots of info on the website. Also info and pics on how the TV cable works and how to set it up.

Ok so like I have previously said I got the trans and stall and hardware. My truck is just a rebuilt rolling chassis with fresh rebuilt 327 on it that's it. So I'm gana install the trans once I get my mount and bracket .once I install trans I'm taking it to a local garage.to have the fire up the motor for the first time. My question is do I need to have the cooling lines that run from trans to rad before they start it? I'm.getting a three row rad from champion some day. Is it better.to run cooler lines from.rad or.separate little rad.just for trans. Also do I need the tv cable and mount before they fire it?

You definitely need a cooling system for the transmission. I would go ahead and hook up the TV cable as well. I don't think it its as important to have the TV cable unless you put the trans in gear and move it around but if it were Me I would hook it up too..
